Its what they do. Data, scouting, forums, contacts, gossip. Been doing it for years.

As have most clubs. Data will be patchy at the lower levels, though not zippo. Non league, non existent pretty much, I would guess.

Then live scouting. Then background stuff. Its not new.

Read up on the Brentfords scouting process mate.

I am not that aware of their whole team, but they sold 2 of the BMW front line for circa £50m recently after paying buttons for them, using their system that INCLUDES looking at forums. They scouted that Tony (sic) lad at POSH a few years ago; they were asked for £12m. They walked away cos their system told them he wasnt worth that. The following year they signed him for £6m.

So a professional/successful scouting network uses, as a small part of their process, fan forums. But you dismiss those professionals from 3000 miles away. Ok mate.
A Data-driven/Moneyball solution only works if you100% stick to that method, Everton's have proven with manager and player appointments that would never work. Moneyball happened because a GM faced an impossible situation, similar to Brentwood an environment stacked against them and they need to change to obtain success. For that to work in football you have to commit to a DOF for 5+ years who is given complete and absolute control - and a coaching setup designed to work within that formula - coach what you have not what you think you need.

Read some UK stuff mate. Written after interviewing the 2 main blokes. For the last time, they dont RELY on forums, but they do look at them.
Pretty sure what I read was from the UK but not arsed enough to go hunting. Still you're using Brentford as an argument for the eye test and that's missing the mark for sure, forums or not.

I understand it like studying history. People read a plethora of secondary evidence i.e. people who lived through it (diaries, letters and the like). If there's enough of the masses saying the same thing, then it could be seen as the truth. This, COUPLED with the facts, allows the PROFESSIONAL to make an informed decision / view on what was really going on. Also, I'd hope a professional could distinguish between a knee jerking, attention seeking social media typing keyboard warrior and a fan with a view.

Bloody sensible if you ask me.
Those are primary sources mate

As someone who watches USMNT, get the Hoppe deal done. However he's going that cheap take advantage.

He's quick, technical, physical and mobile. He's just breaking through. In 18 months he'll be getting linked to big money moves to the likes of Chelsea or Bayern for 60-80 million euros.

He'll be the next Haaland/ Mahrez/Vardy/Gueye. His price and profile. will soon rocket.

Lol wot.

…in days of old, clubs would always do their homework to determine a players character. Talking to his old managers, team mates and coaches. With the easy access to social media & the amount invested in players, you’d think it was par for the course to analyse fans forums etc.
Well I'm pretty sure it happens with us. I'm surprised we're able to sell any players tbh if clubs ever log into GOT.

I like his potential, but I think he’s more of a DCL for career trajectory in a best case scenario. He still has a lot to work on technically and just in terms of movement/decision making before being linked to the big boys. He has the tools but he needs to develop them.

That said, for 2mil it’s a no brainer. Tons of upside and worst case you can flog him for more in 2 years even if he doesn’t kick on.

I didn't know where else to post this but surely we're due an update on he who shouldn't be named by now? Or is no news good news? I'm only wondering because if his contract is rescinded, will that give us some wriggle room in the market?

Funnily enough, ongoing legal investigations don’t give much weight to when the fans of any football team involved feel like they’re “due an update”.

If a player is summarily released from their contract, it would indeed free up their wages but as far as immediate effect to profit and loss, I assume we’d make a loss to the tune of whatever their book value is at that time. Not sure if there’s any dispensation for such cases where FFP or its equivalent are concerned. Assume if we wanted some financial recompense for the loss we’d have to sue the party concerned like Chelsea did with Mutu.
