Everton Summer transfers 2021

….I doubt Gomes will leave, surely nobody could match his salary & he won’t be prepared to take a massive pay cut.

Kenny, Kean & Delph are logically the only ones we’ll shift.

Why not James ? Low fee, guaranteed quality, and the publicity alone justifies the wages. Seems to me he should be the easiest one to shift.

Yep.

We have gone way over the top in wages which makes shifting them almost impossible.

Best we can hope with is a wage subsidy while he runs down his current deal.

So with Gomes we have a guaranteed loss of £15m in amortisation and £18m in wages.

To put that into perspective St Etienne is for sale free of debt for less than Andre Gomes will cost Everton over his 5 years at the club.

And Everton have had about 10 signings who have been just as bad financially.

He who must not be named: £45m + £25m wages
Bolasie: £27m + £20m wages
Gomes:£25m+ £30m wages
Tosun: £24m + £20m wages
Schneiderlin: £24m + £15m wages
Walcott:£20m+£20m wages
Niasse: £13m+£10m wages
McCarthy: £13m+£10m wages
Williams: £11m+£7m wages
Total = £359m worth of investment and only the top one has played more than a few matches for us
Grim reading that when you think how crap they all were

Because supporters aren't looking at their own players objectively at all. And people within the game should have ways to do that.

Like I said, the best judges of a Plymouth Argyle player are the few thousand who watch him every week. Fans views are generally on line, so why dismiss that rich source of confirmation, or otherwise, when assessing whether to take your interest further?

Because of the biases involved in supporting a club. It's really that simple.

And for the most part if you're interested in a player you can send a scout who is hopefully less biased to watch in person instead. If Brands were basing his decision on McNeil on what the folks at Turf Moor said in the pub after the match I'd want him fired on the spot. Part of making decisions is evaluating what a good source of information is.

Didnt say you sign a player based on a forum. I said you shouldnt dismiss it as a source of information. Especially if buying from the lower leagues.

Talking of the Burnley fans, I was reading their thoughts on McNeil. Varying opinions obviously, but prevailing themes;

- They rely on him almost entirely for creativity
- He’s always knackered after about 70 mins
- Defensively switches off a bit
- Would like to see him playing in the middle.

I don’t imagine we’ll be in for him unless Kean and James go, but would hope we don’t go much higher than £25 million

It's a bad source of information. It should be dismissed the same as anti-vax youtube videos should be dismissed by real scientists.

The next Bilyaletdinov then.

And what experience that you have as a real scout leads you that conclusion?
It's more about professionals in any field not taking on the opinions of amateurs mate. I know football fans love to think supporting their club means they know a lot, it just frankly doesn't. I'm guilty of it too no doubt, but from the outside we just don't understand a lot of what goes into playing at that level.

Read up on the Brentfords scouting process mate.

I am not that aware of their whole team, but they sold 2 of the BMW front line for circa £50m recently after paying buttons for them, using their system that INCLUDES looking at forums. They scouted that Tony (sic) lad at POSH a few years ago; they were asked for £12m. They walked away cos their system told them he wasnt worth that. The following year they signed him for £6m.

So a professional/successful scouting network uses, as a small part of their process, fan forums. But you dismiss those professionals from 3000 miles away. Ok mate.

Very different.

He carries the ball forward regularly and successfully. He's a good passer and is strong and mobile.
Sunderland should get promotion to the championship this season, if Broadhead does well at that level they will want to keep him and give him a longer contract... a clever move by the player rather than going to the championship and maybe struggling to get a chance.
