The same Vlasic and Fellaini we made good profits on?

Blind luck. Not a good way of doing business.

Fellaini is one of my favourite ever Everton players, but yes, while he was scouted by Moyes, his actual signing was a massive punt off the back of the Liverpool game, as that one performance made us pull the trigger.

Don't get me wrong, loads of managers/clubs throughout history have done similar, but in the modern day an elite club shouldn't be doing it, especially not one with a dedicated Director of Football.

Fellaini had been linked to us about a month before that Liverpool game too..

Moyes signings were usually thoroughly vetted tbh, I would be surprised if Fellaini was a reactionary punt based on one game.

Thought he looked a good player Jebbison.

I much prefer an approach of trusting our scouting network and buying players before “they make it” the body of evidence is good, Branwaite, Godfrey, Niels as opposed to the standard 30 mill Iwobi, Bolaise, Tosun - annual drunken payday night out approach. Hope we don’t go for the Correas of this world. Pick a strategy Everton and commit.

So Fellaini was nothing like Jebbison then?

It was what pushed it over the edge. It really shouldn't have been.

Because while you get lucky with a Fellaini, sometimes you get a "Besic was great against Messi, let's get him" signing instead.

As above, Round confirmed it was the performance against Liverpool that made them pull the trigger.

My argument is that even if he had a shocker against Liverpool, it shouldn't matter as you should have evaluated the signing so much by that point that you know whether you want him or not.
