What's your criteria for PL standard player? Is it not a player that plays in the PL? Robinson played 28 games in the league last season.

Well as I said, I considered Davies a PL standard player and got laughed at, so if he isn’t then Robinson certainly isn’t. Also Rhian Brewster played a lot of games last season and he obviously isn’t PL standard. If a player shows himself to be out of his depth in the PL then he clearly isn’t of the standard.

I have considered everyone’s thoughts on this matter and it would appear I was wrong, Davies is definitely not a Premier League standard player. So therefore I’ll amend my statement regarding our academy accordingly.

Everton have produced 0 Premier League standard footballers in a decade.

I mean it must be quite difficult to produce Premier League quality footballers, it's the hardest league in the world. Then you've probably got Man Utd, Liverpool, City, Chelsea snapping up all the best young talent. Finally, a club and fanbase desperate for quick success at any cost, and its not that difficult to see why we haven't had a conveyor belt of talent coming through.

Well then you/someone needs to define "PL standard player" then for this to work.

I mean Robinson is a US international on top of that.

I’ve just been hounded for suggesting Davies was Premier League standard. And clearly neither of these two are, Robinson was a rotation player in a relegated side that failed to reach 30 points, doubt Norwich will either and would be surprised if Dowell plays more than 15 games.
I hope Dowell gets a proper chance. His goal production has been pretty decent for the minutes he's been given over his whole career. I don't need to see Cantwell play 3000 minutes to get 4 goals and 3 assists.

No idea why people are complaining about someone saying Davies is premier league standard because he clearly is. He has over a hundred premier league games, he’s not what we need to push on to where we ideally want to be but he’d get game time for multiple teams in the bottom half of the prem.

He put in more tackles, got the same amount of assists as Gomes last season despite playing further back, less game time and on way less wages.

i recently did a list of our under 23's title winning team and the amount of them playing in division 2 or lower is crazy

compared to other clubs academy's, especially Chelsea's ours is poor, we don't produce enough players who can compete at an elite level

Jesus... Someone needs to expand on this and really expose it to the club. We're lightyears behind and years into the Mosh reign nothing has improved in that department.

He'd definitely struggle to get a game for all of the teams in the bottom half, and I absolutely guarantee he'd have been sold to a championship team buy all of them at this point.

Now Danny if you disagree with this you've got 2 options... 1.You either go and have a really cold shower and come to your senses... or 2. Go and put the kettle on, have a nice cup of tea and biscuit I realise what you posted was one big horrible mistake.

I think the way our academy has operated for the last 5-6 years is:

1. Our production line to generate talent to u18 level with PL potential remains functional
2. Fatal blockage occurs at u23 level where Rhino curtails development & bad loans expose players to eg Pulis, Warnock, Barton etc.
3. We hold onto players too long to win at u23 rather than developing first team players

The solution Brands seems to have moved to over last 12 months is to effectively work around Rhino & limit his autonomy bringing recruitment under central control, slashing u23 squad numbers, belatedly moving out older players & integrating any young player 16+ with promise into first team training and/or out on loan to better chosen clubs.

It was not enough to keep Small but he changed agent to a little known one-man band who obviously sees him as a golden ticket & has being giving Small the hard sell on being a huge talent. Time will tell.

It is genuinely too early to judge the success or otherwise of our changing approach but whilst the u23 performance v LFC was awful as they looked uncoached at least the team and squad we fielded was young.
