Everton Summer transfers 2021

I mean in what world did anyone suggest that?

People would be happy with Edouard.

But I don't think we're actually going to get Edouard. It's much more likely to be Rondon. Which is very, very meh.
Meh

Realistically he is of a type that will come in and be happy to be back up.
Looks like DCL & Richy are the main strikers now , its pointless signing another for lets be honest big money to sit on the bench.
If its Rondon and another like Jebbison it gives us immediate cover and succession.
It looks like a plan tbh.

Good teams have at least 3 good forwards, if not 4. We currently only have 2. Rondon wouldn't add enough quality to make it 3 good forwards.

I can live with it, for the right price.

But Rondon isn't on a free, so we'd need to pay a fee. We'd then have wages on top. He's 32, been in China for two years (and in a season at least part-cancelled by COVID I guess). He's not exactly going to be at the peak of fitness.

Well, no because James wages will of already been budgeted for in the accounts so any of that money that we don't have to pay will be a reduction on our outgoings and will effect our budget accordingly.
We're still paying it, buddy. It helps us a bit with profit and loss but we're still paying £5m for a player to play for somebody else.

Yeah im sure it had nothing to do with hiring a manager with absolutely zero background as a manager to deal with a rapidly ageing team.

No, it was Ronaldo and his 101 goals and 22 assists in 134 games for them that was the problem:coffee:

the switch to the reliance on him as nain focus made them not as affective, the team did not work as well, and they had invested massively into him with wages.

Its a little bit like when we got Lineker in, and it made us as a team less affective.

it happens.

Control periods of games.

People are raving about that one pass Iwobi played for Dom v Leeds (it was a good pass btw). James does that 5-6 times a game...

I look at the Palace game last season at home. We had complete control of that match because when James was on we could give it to him to dictate the tempo. He went off and we lost all of that.

Now, it didn't work every game and I don't mean that he'd suddenly become a Pirlo type. It's just a shame to be bringing in genuine pace and then not having a player who can provide magic to get them the ball.

In an ideal world we keep James all day long. But we are financially in a bad position and looking to play a much more direct, higher paced brand of football. And direct football is exactly what this club needs to be playing.

If the manager doesn't intend to use James, then there is no point keeping him. If letting him go allows us to bring in more long term options, then there is no point keeping him.

I'm quite ok either way if he stays or goes. It's definitely not make or break for us going forward.

James isn't able to control games in this league though. He hasn't got the legs or the physicality to do that. He is a player capable of special moments of quality that no one else is capable of, but is certainly not someone who controls a match.

I think it's becoming clear that the manager doesn't plan to use him regularly so it's in everyone's interests to move him on. He needs to play and we can't afford to have such a high earner not involved.
So sell him. Don't pay him to play for somebody else. A CL team no less!

The maitland-niles rumors are disconcerting not just because of his mediocrity but because they would be of indicative that we're looking for an utility player to provide coverage and not actually replacing Coleman. Who has been decent this season but its inevitable that his form isnt sustainable with him being on the overall decline the past few years.

Yeah I get that, but it's the point @windymiller makes. Don't be bloody paying him to play for someone else. We aren't that good, and we can't be that arrogant, I'm sorry, or our manager that stubborn.

So as we get close it is looking like:

In:
Winger - Diaz (hopefully)
RB - Patterson or Maitland Niles
ST - Rondon or Edouard

Out:
James
Kean
Kenny (surely)
with the possibility of Delph and/or Branthwaite also going

As much as I wanted to see James play in the flesh at the grand old lady he just doesn’t suit Benitez’s preferred style of play - not sure how you’d fit him in with our playing effectively a 4-4-2

Yes but were not paying £10m for a player that is refusing to play for us. Which unfortunately its looking like he is.

This is all speculation obviously, maybe they are paying the full 100% maybe not we'll have to see on the details of the deal.
