Yeah, as I said, I don't think we need to go back to the drawing board, signing a load of teenagers and saying we need to give them 5 years to come good. I think we've got to focus on signing players who are good enough to improve us but who aren't already on a downward curve. I've said before, I feel like we've got so used to wasting money in recent years that people have started to believe that there's no value out there. There is though. I don't think we need 4/5 world class players, a couple more players like Godfrey would be a good start, just players who come in and perform to a good standard while hinting at further development down the line. Much of our starting XI is already 28+ going into next season, adding to that is a big, big gamble, and is likely to lead to yet another massive squad overhaul after another 2/3 years. I just don't think it's sustainable to do that.

I think what you want is a bit of balance. I'd personally prefer more at the Godfrey/Doucoure spectrum, 22-27, experienced in the PL type players. I think I suggested Neto, Raphina, Aarons, Ings (appreciate he's a bit older but should be "on the cheap"), Bissouma would all be high up on my list.

It was the age group we tended to do best with under Moyes (though he often had to sacrifice PL experience for championship experience) but it seems to work well for us as a club. For a number of reasons we don't tend to develop wonderkids and teenagers very well (I have my own views but a bit of a tangent).

Not all of them are and it's not really right to assume they wouldn't want to be here. I also don't think, if this was the case, we then just give up and build a squad of ticking bomb dinosaurs.

I dont think say a 24 yar old Allan, or James would want to come here mate. Thats the trade off. It's about balnce really. I thought we did well last summer.

There's definitely a middle ground. There are good players out there who would improve us and are aged 23-26. They might not be the very best in the world, but they really don't need to be. We're 8th in the PL, you don't have to be Messi to be a significant upgrade on what we have.
Maybe they don’t have to be the best in the world, but you couldn’t have a full team of them. And that’s why youd have, hopefully a few top class players mixed in. And they probably would be 29/30

What moyes did was 15yrs ago. I’m not sure that wouid work now. And also as a fan base in them days, we knew we had no money. So why it was frustrating most summers, we took it on the chin as we had no other choice.

We want success quick now. And who can really blame us after 26yrs

Yeah, having a couple is fine of course. We've got our couple now though. I think any more than one signing in that bracket this summer and we're basically just shunting the problem a year or 2 down the road, at which point the team requires another rebuild. The squad isn't old, but it isn't young either. We don't want them all to be going over the hill together.

We already have a few at 29/30 though, we don't really want anymore imo, we need to be looking in that 22-25 age group, I'm sure we have something like 15 players all age 27+ You can only have a 25 man squad and Carlo/Brands have said they want around 22/23 players.

That’s fair, but I suppose it depends on positions. As a 29yr old striker is older In footballing terms, than a 29yr old CB.

obviously a lot of talk has been about koulibaly who I don’t think will come to Everton, but he could easily play for 4 seasons.

If we did sign Aaron’s. And a midfielder who’s 23/24. Then we would have
Pickford(30) Aaron’s,(25) Godfrey(26) Holgate(28) Mina(30) Keane(32) Digne(31) Gbamin(28)Davies(26) Doucoure(31) new midfielder(27)
Dcl(28) Richarlison(27) in 4yrs time

I don’t expect all them to be at the club, in the 4yrs. But I don’t think it’s a big hardship to maybe lose an older player from the first team every season.

Like I’ve said the best ones at that age cost a lot of money.

Everyone raves about Leicester and how brilliant they’re in the transfer market. They’ve had 2x 34yr olds. 1x33yr old and a 31yr old. 4 over 30’s have been regulars for Leicester this season

There are some great championship players who are under rated and will become really effective PL players. We’re not going to buy many CL players in their prime, but we can easily take Championship players wit( potential who would improve us.

But if they’re only
Potential then you really don’t know how it will turn out. Ancelotti will not want 3/4 players from the championship this summer.
That’s guaranteed

He won’t, I know. All I’m suggesting is it’s an under used market by the PL and we’re always surprised when teams like Leeds come up and do well. There are definitely players that would be better than what we have got. They are likely to be hungrier to prove themselves. I remember Cahill joining from Milwall and he didn’t turn out too badly.

I’ve been led to believe we’ve at least scouted Gianluca Busio, another American young gun playing for Sporting Kansas City. 18, highly rated midfielder with an Italian passport who apparently had a 4mil bid from Fiorentina turned down previously. I’m absolutely not claiming to know anything, but hearing it led me to another question. With Brexit stuff, does an Italian passport even still help, assuming we were actually interested?

Its kind of essential that we buy a CM this summer who can take a pass from the CB's, turn and move forward with plenty of pace and then make an incisive pass to a striker or overlapping FB that results in an effort on goal. Thats it really, any other buys would be gravy as BFS would say.

So the media drop these....Koilibaly, lautaro martinez, and Rabiot ?!?

That would be swell.

Just seen that...

Koulibaly + Rabiot make some sense.

Lautaro is mind blowing.

No idea but thats a very random shout...

We need a RB as well.
