Have we ever been linked to Emerson or do you just really like the guy? I can’t keep up.

Yes several times last year.

If we sold Holgate ( young Versatile English ) for 20m and signed Koubailly for 35 m you have massively improved the defence for 15m net

Pure insanity to sell Holgate.

it should be Mina or the hugely overrated Keane.

Zat just casually dropping 350m on players.

Having a high brow convo with @catcherintherye on players linked.

Would you be happy with Lautaro, Rabiot, Koulibaly and Aarons?

I agree on the RB CM and RW
They all need to have pace power and physicality
These are sadly lacking in our squad
We also need cover for Digne ie a player who has the same qualities as Digne but obviously to a lesser degree
Reece James really impressed me on these 3 fronts on our recent games
Those 3 positions should be a priority I agree but if finances allow we would be mad to turn up our noses to Koubailly
Reece James would be - unlikely as key to Chelsea - a transformative addition at the back. Great attitude and hugely talented.

£60m?

Believe that'd make him their record sale after Havertz...

He's 23 (24 in August) and has 2 years left on his deal.

They are looking unlikely to get Champions League.

He was getting touted around for €25m last year because he'd had an average season in 19-20.

I don't think a Bundesliga club, who aren't in the CL, and are getting no revenue from fans, are going to be demanding £60m.

Apparently that was what they were after. Whether the pandemic/no CL has changed things I dont know, or whether they would accept less, again I dont know. It felt steep to me.

So why do people think he’ll suddenly be attainable by Everton this year.

I suppose a number of factors come together, in a way that was probably similar to the James & Allan situation. The owner seems to turn on players quite quickly and dare I say in an irrational way. The player has 2 years left on a contract. All clubs have been hit enormously financially, and this looks like it will continue long until 2021 with the impending "3rd wave". So from the sellers side, there is now far more motivation to sell.

For Everton, the removal of FFP which may happen will suit us and remove probably the biggest obstacle that may have stopped us previously. The manager knows and likes him, the same seems true of the player. We may have European football. But also there is going to be a sharp reduction of buyers in the market due to covid. Many of the traditional "big spending" teams and natural destinations will not have the funds, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Dortmund, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan potentially even Manchester United will all be spending a lot less than previous years.

So it opens up new potential avenues and solutions. I don't know if it's a goer at all and am by no means saying it will be done, but I can see a world where it happens. Strangely I didn't see that when we went for him in 2016. I didn't see any need for Napoli to sell and didn't see us wanting to pay say 70m or whatever they wanted. Objectively, I can see how 3 or 4 different things have fallen into place now, which makes it a possibility.

Where did you buy your crystal ball
You state this and a few hours later news breaks that FFP is gone
Bit of a lucky guess. Someone did say to me last week that UEFA would be looking at FFP but I didn't know it would be quite that quick!

You could see FFP would go as far back as the summer. As soon as the verdict came in, FFP was done. The fact they've had to postpone it for 2 years shows they are disarray.

There are lots of implications to that. I mean it obviously lifts the pressures on clubs, and we have far more freedom. I rememeber speaking to one of the quite prominent youtube guys last year and we debated not just whether we would spend in the summer (I felt we would and we did) his view was very much we wouldn't and it was all down to FFP. So he was on the cautious wing. I asked him, what happened if FFP went, and he almost instantly said "we will spend loads" but added the cavaet of "it wil never happen". I tend to agree with that assessment (minus the FFP will never go part).

There will be other changes too. I'd say that the imperative to sign younger players to sell on will slowly go, and there will be a bit of value in older players, which overall is quite good for us. We have a manager who works well with older players, but also we have had some success picking up 22-25 year olds previously but the market became saturated. So that suits us.

OUTS:
Kenny (£12k) - £5-10m
Kean (£60k) - £30-40m

Total - (£72k) £35-£50m

We still have to make decisions on players who are on loan like:
Tosun (£60k) - £2-5m
King (£45k) - £5m
Olsen (£20k) £4-6m

Plus players coming into their final year:
Sigurdsson - £100k
James - £90k - option of extra year
Coleman - £70k
Bernard - £120k
Delph - £80k

I think we have balanced the wages as best as we can but we have some bit part players and contracts to renegotiate so for a many a year we have a healthier budget for wages and players.

(n) Madness that he is our highest paid player. Wasn't it reported that Sandro was on a similar wage?

Yeah fair enough.

Really don't think they'd realistically be expecting that if they sell.

Havertz was their Rooney (albeit I never really got the hype). Though, they've now gone and brought Wirtz into their first team and he looks as good if not better.

Bailey's a decent player and a few years ago after his first season at Leverkusen he was getting linked to the likes of City for big, big money, but his stock did fall a bit. He's having an exceptional season but if they don't get CL I can't see them getting more than €35m, but we'll see. The likelihood we'll be in for him is probably very slim. Just in the template of the type of forward/winger we need, I think he's spot on.

King as in, to buy him?

He isn't on loan. He's signed with us until the end of the season. After that he's a free agent.

Burnley wouldn't pay a few million for Kenny in January. Not sure if we'll be able to get between £5m and £10m with him when he has a year left on his deal...
