Everton Summer transfers 2021

Even though the signings already made have done brilliantly so far, I think this was tempered with an expectation that we would get a few more in out of pure necessity.

It doesn't appear to be going that way today. Have to wait and see I guess.

Being relieved if we end up with Salomon Rondon and AMN on deadline day says a lot for where we are.

There can be no excuses made for Brands really. What we have seen this summer is the result of 3+ years of his "work", or perhaps the opposite, no work at all. Strange that from a man who said he would lead by example and involve himself in everything, down to the jersey design.

This today is the net result, back to the 90s and even worse. There can be no redemption for us whilst this man is in situ.
I think brands can certainly be criticised, but not for this. This really is what played out largely under the previous regime. The club made a gamble when it brought Ancelotti in and gave him so much money to spend ontop of what had previously been spent.

It has all come to a head with the Covid crisis, the impact of which cannot be understated on all of European football. The numbers of transfers and sums spent have been much lower because football is in a major crisis.

Brands needs firing. Can't believe the very best he's been able to do is send Kean out on another loan, pick up two free transfers and sign a midfielder for 1.5 Mill.
Well I mean he could have spent £100m on top calibre players.

Oh no wait, he couldn’t.

Loudly for those in the back: WE ARE NOT ABLE TO SPEND ANY MONEY. WE ARE IN VERY REAL DANGER OF BREACHING BOTH UEFA AND PL SPENDING REGULATIONS.

You could maybe say he could have done better with outgoings, but then you’re assuming there’s a massive sellers’ market for players not good enough for the 10th best side in the PL last season.

UEFA spending rules are totally irrelevant unless we actually qualify in the season we breached them, tbf

That’s pretty much his fault that we’re in that position though?

Brands was brought in to fix a mess, that was the supposed idea.

Three years later, if you're in a bigger mess that doesn't say anything to his credit.

I accept that there are bigger forces at play, but his name is on the door, like the managers, and we have had no issue in making managers accountable. It should be the same treatment for Brands. His record here is appalling.

Which is why it is partly his responsibility to find ways to improve the squad. I've never heard someone get so many excuses in all my life. If I mess up at work, then it's my responsibility to go and fix it. I can't just say, oh well, I've messed up, but not my problem anymore.

And who's feet does the blame lie at that for the 500 million spent that has left us in this position?

Covid aside, this transfer window is a mess for all but we are master of OUR own destiny in this but really who should we be pointing the finger at?

For me Brands has had control taken away from him on too many key things for it to all fall at his feet.

It has to fall at Moshiri's feet. Brands, as a third wheel, should be summarily sacked as he's responsible for nothing.
I don't think he should be sacked and not replaced though. Even if they're taking control away from him too much we still do need someone to do his job.
