I think brands can certainly be criticised, but not for this. This really is what played out largely under the previous regime. The club made a gamble when it brought Ancelotti in and gave him so much money to spend ontop of what had previously been spent.Even though the signings already made have done brilliantly so far, I think this was tempered with an expectation that we would get a few more in out of pure necessity.

There can be no excuses made for Brands really. What we have seen this summer is the result of 3+ years of his "work", or perhaps the opposite, no work at all. Strange that from a man who said he would lead by example and involve himself in everything, down to the jersey design.
