Can’t really fault him too much on this particular window, he’s done ok on a tight budget.

'MAITLAND-NILES AND ARSENAL NOW WANT TO MOVE FORWARD'

Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth on The Transfer Show:

"It was getting quite messy between Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Arsenal yesterday. There was that Instagram post that Maitland-Niles put out about wanting to play for a club where he is going to play.

"I have been speaking to someone quite close to Arsenal and this is the information that I’ve got. We know from the beginning of the transfer window, if a suitable offer came in for Maitland-Niles, then Arsenal would consider it, but they still maintained that he would be an important part of the Arsenal squad.

"They had one offer from Everton that came in yesterday, it was a loan with an option. I’m told the option was low, hence why it was rejected out of hand. As a result, Maitland-Niles will be remaining at Arsenal and will be an important part of the squad.

"I’m also told, following that Instagram post, he did hold talks with Mikel Arteta. Arsenal were quite disappointed with the action that Maitland-Niles took on social media, but they have ‘clear the air’ talks and now all parties want to move forward with Maitland-Niles part of that Arsenal squad.

"He will be hoping after these talks, there will more opportunities for him. He’s got a contract at Arsenal that runs out in 2023."

If he stays, they will work together imo. We are desperate for quality and he has it is spades. Surely he can play as a ten in this set up?!

I’d definitely use him but I’m not sure that Benitez will I get the impression he’s a stubborn one and won’t want to back down.

Not sure there’s any need for that tbh we gave him the fat contract and if nobody will match it or he doesn’t want to move to somewhere that will then that’s our fault not his. I know fans are fickle but I didn’t expect Benitez to become the hero and James become the villain quite as quick as this I have to say.

Where has Benitez become the hero?
If James doesn’t want to play then sound. That’s his choice. He apparently refused to sit on the bench against brighton btw.

Rumours of Gomes loan to Benfica so a space in squad if true. Vlasic has signed for West Ham so they won't be buying Lingaard. Wonder if we are going to make a move to take him on loan for the season? Probably to play him at right back?

I 100% get the stubborn thing. He has told James he can go, he is still here, will Benitez suddenly find room for him....? Difficult to imagine
