The time to sign Zaha was probably 2-3 years ago. There would not be value this summer in spending £50m+ on a 29 year old who is inconsistent in terms of goalscoring. His value to Palace is much higher than his value would be to us. I see it as a non-starter at this point, and that's not because he's a bad player. I would have been happy to sign him back when we were first linked.
 
Oh no Carlo says he doesn't need a striker because we have Kean to return who is valued at £40-50m and scoring in the Champions League with Juventus and PSG willing to but and Gbamin who had just come back into the fold and given his recent bad luck, it would be nice to have is manager believe in him.

Why isn't Carlo saying who he wants to sign so we can overpay just like all our recent Star buys? It's almost like he isn't giving away his bargaining position so Everton get the best deal.

He knows exactly what we need.
Threatening to keep Kean is of course a bargaining tactic, pressurising the players agent and PSG in turn.
 

The core of the team is in place with players like Keane, Digne, Godfrey, Mina,Holgate, Allan,Doucoure, DCL and Richarlison, Pickford.

We certainly need maybe another three first team starting players and then we need to strengthen and deepen the squad.

There may even be a couple of young players from the academy able to play a part.

He’s scored more than all our players, other than DCL with 9. Spend 50 mil on him to get that return for 3-4 seasons is worth it for me.

I’d rather us do that than take a gamble on another Bernard, or Iwobi.

I do understand the reasons for not wanting him, though. IMO I think if you buy 1 or 2 aged 28+ players that will make an impact, along with 3-4 gambles in the hope of resale, you can make it work.

I think £50m on a 29 year old whose game is quite reliant on pace is a risk. We really don't know how he'd be performing in 4 years time. It's the sort of transfer that has got us into problems in recent years.

I'm not even sure Palace would sell at £50m. Their valuation of the player seems to be enormous. I just think that we should move on and sign a younger alternative.
