Which is exactly what I said in the post that you replied to - it's a credit to him that he never did any of those things when his club was obviously using every ounce of leverage they had against him. So many footballers these days would not be the professional that players like Zaha and Grealish have been.
What “leverage”? He signed a contract.

Every time I watched Palace it looked to me like he was up top with Benteke or whoever and Eze was on the left. I know you'll have watched more.
Most of the season we have been 4-5-1 with Benteke up top on his own. If Benteke is out Wilf goes through the middle. Whenever we attack (not very often under Roy) then obviously Wilf’s brief is to get forward. Once we were safe Roy took the brakes off and Wilf’s starting position was noticeably further forward.

Which confers leverage to the club holding the contract, until the contract runs down and the bargaining power flips to the player since he can credibly threaten to leave on a Bosman unless his demands are met.

I would recommend that you think more broadly about contracts as setting the stage and terms for subsequent negotiations, rather than simply as ironclad commitments.

There were games where Benteke played where Zaha was very far forward and those are the ones where I'm saying he played as a striker. Those are what I saw. I don't think it was always but it was enough that I'd not look at him as a pure winger anymore. Kind of like Richarlison. And we don't need another one.

The point is, he had a choice. He could sign a long term contract for big money or take his chances. He signed. He might have signed for a shorter term for less dough but he didn’t. He is now running down his contract and I doubt whether he will sign another and that is how he will get his move.
