Everton Summer transfers 2021

Does anyone find it frustrating that other clubs are making moves for their targets now to have them ready to join after the Euros and every season we complete our transfers quite late.....
Good point, I think that was the old Kenwright strategy to save paying players wages early. I would hope under Moshiri we buy early to give Carlo a chance to get them in at the start of pre season training.

Was this actually a thing or just something our fans joked about?

In all seriousness, it is absolutely mad how we leave everything until the window starts to even have a discussion (going off what Carlo has said - I know he does lie).

It's been clear for 2-3 years we need a right-back. It's been clear for 2 seasons we need a wide player. It's been clear for half a season that we need a new midfielder.

I'm not expecting us to have signed all three, but y'know, it is possible to have deals lined up for when the window starts. With the tournaments (Euros, U21s (albeit that's shorter), Copa America) coming up, you either do it before or have to wait until after.

For once, it'd just be nice to see us do what Liverpool have gone and done with Konate and get the deal finalised for an area they clearly need strengthening. Just like they did with Fabinho in 2018 (signed the day after they lost the CL final IIRC).

Maybe next week we'll have got our right-back in, but we know that's not going to be the case. I know it doesn't make a difference in terms of it being, y'know, the end of the season anyway, but just some impetus would be nice, wouldn't it.

Didn't Brands say in an interview they usually start the process around February time in a caldendar year?

We also can "do what Liverpool just did" if you want to go fork out a release clause in one go.

We were after their right back in January I think and Leicester have already secured Soumare. Their keeper has just signed for AC. That team is going to be ripped apart and any team wanting a slice will have to move very quickly to do so
Just like that Monaco team, won the title and got sold off.

Luis Campos is an amazing talent spotter, built that Monaco team and did it again with Lille.

Wonder where he'll go next.

And we wonder why we haven't done diddly squat in 26 years.

Definition of insanity springs to mind with us.

I think we sometimes doesn’t have the money to buy players early. If there’s 60 mill in the pot and it’s a choice between having Allan and Docuoure on the first day of the window, or having Allan Docuoure Godfrey and James later in the window, we’re always going to go with the latter. It’s yet another advantage for the top clubs, they just don’t have the budget constraints so they pay the number that greases the wheels straight away.

Not entirely sure how footballers' minds work but maybe some of those we are aiming for want to see if they have a good Euro and can attract interest from more prominent clubs? 'Baulking' as it were (@FTY)
