Gomes has definitely been the biggest disappointment of any of our recent signings. He has the ability but doesn't seem to have the heart (or mental strength).

The others were just bad signings.

possibly down to that terrible injury he had and imo done himself no favours with, coming back too fast after it.

The ability to launch what should be a simple chip pass into the stands

hello buddy let us play a game. who said this about mr gomes?? 3 guesses only.
Obviously that’s was after a few games. Not a season. See the not match sharp bit, that could be a clue

At that time our other midfielders, would have been gana, Davies and Schneiderlin. Let’s be honest not that difficult to look technically better than that lot.

Im
Sure if I was also a bit weird like you. I could go back 3 years and find a few more messages. Only a few games further down the line, when my opinion would be changing.

Unfortunately when you have a poor team, it’s easy to get over excited with new signings.

wrong answer sorry buddy.
correct answer was : @Stephenlloyd.

Gomes wasn’t lashing goals in and racking up the assists before his injury was he?

We had (and I include myself) just overrated him because he looked a massive upgrade on Morgan and Tom who had been absolutely stinking the gaff out at the time.

The half step Gomes lost due to the Son injury has really hurt him. He already wasn't very fast but now it looks like he's moving in quicksand. A move back to Spain or Portugal and a slower league would suit him.
Shame that yeah. Unfortunately the only thing he offers nowadays is the odd left footed swinging cross into the box. He's by far the slowest player in the squad and offers no threat in the opposition's half of the field whatsoever.

When he joined us I thought we were getting some pass master who can dictate the tempo of the game and get us on the front foot quickly.

Bitterly, bitterly disappointed with how it's turned out.

But to be honest most of our signings have turned out to be majorly disappointing at best, a few exceptions aside.

Even the few 'successful' signings are rarely fit (Allan, James), while the initially superb signings like Richarlison and Digne have gone backwards at a rate of knots.

Then there are the less-said-the-better signings such as Iwobi, Tosun, Bolasie, Walcott, Delph, Bernard, Gbamin).

I'd go as far as to say the only good signings we've made any time recently have been Godfrey and Doucouré (despite his injury as he came at a bargain price and is a huge influence on the field).

Another summer, another massive turnaround needed. Can see the next seasons following the same pattern of early optimism quickly followed by disappointment and the season being as good as over with a number of games left to play.

All while watching West Ham and Leicester play in Europe.

And we refused to believe Gueye was actually top class at everything and not just running and tackling.
Well he wasn’t really let’s be honest. If he was top class at everything he wouldn’t have gone from Lille to a poor villa team and then on to a mid table Everton team for 7mil

Where'd he go next mate?
Yes so he was slightly under the radar early in his career. Or he improved as he got older. PSG obviously were crying out for that type of midfielder and he wasn’t there first choice. The January window when they were crying poverty and trying to get the price down. All of a sudden they went and got paredes for 40mil

He’s great at what he does, but he’s average a lot of other things
