Everton the season so far...

Would like to see a couple of signings in Jan...

We are in a great position & right up there we must try & take advantage of this opportunity...

A striker to support DCL & another to strengthen our team/squad...

When nothing is certain...

Anything is possible...

Ancelotti has worked wonders with the squad that he's had at his disposal so far.

Considering the number of injuries we've had, the average 18 player squad he's had to work with this season really isn't that great. It's nowhere near top 4 quality.

I'm pleasantly surprised and delighted with the season so far. I have to admit, I thought the injuries would end us. We've been spectacularly and infuriatingly unfortunate with them and the efforts of the remaining players this month to shoot us up to the top have been nothing short of phenomenal.

What's patently clear is that the players are all 100% pulling in the same direction here and are behind the manager, regardless of their standing in the squad or what position they're being asked to play. We've not seen much of that since Moyes left and it bodes really well. It's exactly what we've been envious of the likes of Wolves and Leicester for the last couple of years.

There's a long way to go here and you can fall very far very quickly so there's no point getting too excited about anything, but the improvement on last season is obvious.
I agree with your assessment of the season. Everton is a very thin team, and while the results have been favorable, we must admit that we are about two players away from becoming a reliable team. The season started with James leading the way, but the team fell apart as soon as he was injured because they were too dependent on him. I will say that taking out James for these last four games made the rest of the players realized that they had to up their games, and they did. If you add to that Coleman, Digne, and Richarlison missing games too, what the squad has accomplished has been remarkable. We all know that the injured players' quality is needed and will give the team a boost when they are back, but having an extra attacker and a creative midfielder might make the team more complete. I do give credit to Ancelotti because he is not only getting the best out of each player, but he is making them believe they can be a top 4 team. ¡VAMOS EVERTON!

Not aged well this thread, not even a month old, some people like to jump the gun don't they
i think that the main problem with out mainly bi-polar fan base. We are either getting relegated or going to win the league. So many of our fans struggle with the space between those two extremes. I think we have a good chance of finishing top six (unless we have a blinding January window, or the best injuries luck on record) anything better is beyond us I think. I also think that with this squad, from the state we were in when he took us on, getting top six will be an epic achievement And one we should all be delighted with. Carlo’s brief was European competition after all!

Yeah, we are doing good, we wouldn't have expected to be second. We wouldn't have expected to win the first seven games but we did, we probably didn't expect to lose the next few but we did. Strange season but at no point have I thought we would win the league or be relegated. It was a tough watch for a period though but we got through it and our form is right up there after 15 games.

You don’t have to dig too deep to find lots who do though? I was genuinely shocked when I saw lots of blues slagging Ancelotti off, I mean we will probably never have a more consistently successful manager running an Everton team, and yet there were plenty saying he is close to being sacked! Anyhow, nice to see you are one of the more balanced fans :)

Bit of alright really innit?

So frustrated at the horse punchers, Brexit FC and Leeds performances and results, but you could see the don looking for tactics & ways to make us play, when the injuries and suspensions started to bite - I just wish he would have gone with the younger lads like flash & Nkounkou over the Delphs, Bernies and toshun etc, but you can't really blame carlo - he hasn't seen the guff we have from these so called experienced pros, when they have been trusted & haven't turned up for us in the past.

There will be bumps in the road, but we really have got the right driver to move us forward.

Carlo really is a class act - the way he speaks about the club and his love of being with us and living here really hit me - I cannot wait to see where he can take us, when he has players he has helped sign and who he trusts.

How often have you looked at the league table since yesterday?

Once yesterday, and once after today's results.

Crazy that we're 100% in control of our own destiny to win the league 15 games in. We don't even have to make up the goal differential against that lot across the park under the new tiebreakers. We just have to beat them at their place.

Love the run-in, too - the tough ones are mostly spaced out and the only midweek fixture after February is against Sheffield. Meanwhile, our rivals will be playing midweek in February and March, if not longer.

Think the 'head to head' results only come into play if two teams are level on points, goal difference and goals scored. ;)

The Prem published an article on its website at the beginning of 2019/20 saying that the rule was changed for 2019/20 to consider head-to-head first, but the end-of-season scenarios published by various outlets at the end of 2020 show goal differential as the tiebreaker. I may have missed a reversion of that rule back to the longstanding way you describe.

One look at the table confirms top 2 today, top 8 tomorrow, it really is mental how close the points are. But the last few results have gone for us, I believe we’re in with a shot at top 4 (and by that I mean still in the mix with 5 games to play) and I want Carlo to slap brands and make him go get Isco at the least. We’ve maybe been lucky rather than good at times this year, but let’s not look the horse in the mouth, go get a few loaners and really have a go.

We could very quickly fall down the table again as it is so tightly packed. But what it does show is that by the halfway mark we should be on track for a high 60s/low 70s season. Considering that we have achieved this with our best players missing a number of games is very good. That means there is the opportunity to kick on in the second half of the season without burnout as Richarlison, Allan, James and Digne have effectively had multiple breaks this season. Gbamin could also be added onto the mix (although I’ve no idea what quality he will bring)

Rivals will have europe to contend with and hopefully some of them start having injury problems of their own to level the playing field a bit.

It could be a really good opportunity for us. If we return to european football this season it will have been a good season given where we finished last season. Top 4 would be nirvana.
