I agree with your assessment of the season. Everton is a very thin team, and while the results have been favorable, we must admit that we are about two players away from becoming a reliable team. The season started with James leading the way, but the team fell apart as soon as he was injured because they were too dependent on him. I will say that taking out James for these last four games made the rest of the players realized that they had to up their games, and they did. If you add to that Coleman, Digne, and Richarlison missing games too, what the squad has accomplished has been remarkable. We all know that the injured players' quality is needed and will give the team a boost when they are back, but having an extra attacker and a creative midfielder might make the team more complete. I do give credit to Ancelotti because he is not only getting the best out of each player, but he is making them believe they can be a top 4 team. ¡VAMOS EVERTON!Ancelotti has worked wonders with the squad that he's had at his disposal so far.
Considering the number of injuries we've had, the average 18 player squad he's had to work with this season really isn't that great. It's nowhere near top 4 quality.
I'm pleasantly surprised and delighted with the season so far. I have to admit, I thought the injuries would end us. We've been spectacularly and infuriatingly unfortunate with them and the efforts of the remaining players this month to shoot us up to the top have been nothing short of phenomenal.
What's patently clear is that the players are all 100% pulling in the same direction here and are behind the manager, regardless of their standing in the squad or what position they're being asked to play. We've not seen much of that since Moyes left and it bodes really well. It's exactly what we've been envious of the likes of Wolves and Leicester for the last couple of years.
There's a long way to go here and you can fall very far very quickly so there's no point getting too excited about anything, but the improvement on last season is obvious.
Ha ha! Exactly.....doesn't matter how old I get, the joy of reading about the Blues after a good victory, or a good run, is always there. COYB!!! (Cue abject surrender v. Man City!!!!!)How often have you looked at the league table since yesterday?
i think that the main problem with out mainly bi-polar fan base. We are either getting relegated or going to win the league. So many of our fans struggle with the space between those two extremes. I think we have a good chance of finishing top six (unless we have a blinding January window, or the best injuries luck on record) anything better is beyond us I think. I also think that with this squad, from the state we were in when he took us on, getting top six will be an epic achievement And one we should all be delighted with. Carlo’s brief was European competition after all!Not aged well this thread, not even a month old, some people like to jump the gun don't they
Yeah, we are doing good, we wouldn't have expected to be second. We wouldn't have expected to win the first seven games but we did, we probably didn't expect to lose the next few but we did. Strange season but at no point have I thought we would win the league or be relegated. It was a tough watch for a period though but we got through it and our form is right up there after 15 games.i think that the main problem with out mainly bi-polar fan base. You don’t have to dig too deep to find lots who do though? I was genuinely shocked when I saw lots of blues slagging Ancelotti off, I mean we will probably never have a more consistently successful manager running an Everton team, and yet there were plenty saying he is close to being sacked! Anyhow, nice to see you are one of the more balanced fansYeah, we are doing good, we wouldn't have expected to be second. Think the 'head to head' results only come into play if two teams are level on points, goal difference and goals scored. We don't even have to make up the goal differential against that lot across the park under the new tiebreakers. We just have to beat them at their place.
