True, I miss-read.

But in the same breath the Ajax youngsters aren't better. They're decent, but no as of yet stand out players bar Klaasen and Milik.

Ajax benefit from everyone looking at these talented kids they have, but end of the day only a handful at best of those will make it at anything like the best clubs, most will end up bouncing around clubs like Newcastle, Stoke and Sunderland for the majority of their careers

We have a very good set of our own younsters coming through, for me anyways targetting players in the prime would be the priority going forwards, i want the likes of kenny etc to be the ones breaking through rather than buying some dutch 19yo

Yep spot on.

What we desperately need right now is a bunch of players (talking three, probably) who are in their prime of 26-28/29 and are proven 'quality'.

That will compliment the good youngsters we have

It's another reason i like Emery mate, he knows what it takes to build a winning team, but at the same point he does play youngsters if they show him they get his system and work their bums off

It's speculation ofc but i actually think the acadamy lads will be given a much better shot with him than any other candidate, especially as he likes to rotate people to keep the team fresh A LOT, think the Dutch managers will just dip into the chequebook and buy talented youngsters from abroad that they will simply move ahead of the academy lads makjing it even harder for them to feature.

give me a manager who brings in three players in that age range you stated who have the right mentality and one of them at least who is a natrural leader

Also think Unsworth ha sgiven these kids coming through the exact mentality and desire they need as well so whoever we appoint Unsworth for me HAS to be a big part of that managers plans

While i do agree to a point, i think at Sevilla the person that builds the team is Monchi - Emery is the one who coaches it. I know they have sold a lot of players but they have bought a lot.

Out of their current squad only, Rico, Reyes (if you can count him), Munoz, Fazio (again if you can count him), Cotan (3 appearances since 2014), Luna (6 appearances since 2013), Soria (0 appearances since 2015), Luismi (1 appearances since 2014) have come from the youth academy.

He does rotate his team, but as you can see from the players above, those coming from the B and C team aren't exactly flourishing.

All managers have their good and bad points, until they come in we don't know what they would do - they might see dowell, davies and kenny and think they re ready - they might take to their training methods they might not.

Everyone has a clean slate, which is a good and bad thing. until they are in place, I think we can't say how they will integrate or ignore the youth team and players.

Isn't that partly due to how often their talented younger academy players are bought off them as soon as they break through though as well mate? Ramos - bought from them at 19 by Madrid
Reyes bought at 21 by Arsenal
Moreno bought at 21/22 by Liverpool

But look at our current team and how many of the first team squad who feature right now are academy players? and given we haven't had the same pressure to sell established players they have had, to maintain their strong position domestically and in europe whilst constantly getting raided for your best players and any home grown young players getting poached as well is incredibly difficult in that league.

Can't honestly say how strong the Sevilla youth set up is these days either mate, maybe it is a case of their isn't that much coming through the last few years

I do think the jump from the Under 21's methods into a very tough senior trainign method will be a blessing though, can imagine the last few years the young lads stepping up would be going fromUnsworths to martinez - and actually thinking wtf why is the youth training far more intense than the senior one

Yeah i suppose, guess I am only looking at the current squad which is probably a little unfair.

I actually hold proper hope we could have 4/5 youth players in the first team in the next 2/3 years... as in regulars. Dowell has become a different animal, Davies has pushed on leaps and bounds out of nowhere, Ledson still progressing even if he has stalled and Walsh was bossing it while away. Kenny could be involved and there is more behind them.

One of the remits of the manager should be to integrate them and use the properly. Ill be honest, i have no idea of Emery would do that, or if De Boer would either - but it should be a target of their role when they come in.

Rico is absolutely brilliant mate, polish lad as you said is very good, Gamiero looks for me anyway as very much a french Vardy, great in sevillas system so wouldnt mind though, dont know much about the rest besides seeing them in a few games

But Rico, Gamiero and Krychowiak from them and i'd be happy as a pig in mud

God knows how much though, 30m for Kryhowiak is the figure i've seen bandied around
Rico - 10-15m?
Gamiero - Baccas was sold a little younger for i think 23-24m so guessing around 15-20m for a 29 yo may be a bit steep like

but even at those top end prices you'd be looking at those 3 for about 65m - effectively what we are 'supposedly' asking for Lukaku

Don't see the point in Gameiro myself at his age and only one good season. He's flopped everywhere else except Lorient but French league so... swerve. Rico is good but Spanish keepers seem to cost a fair whack.

IF and obvuiously it's still a big if mate, but IF Emery did join, can see 3-4 Sevilla players being targeted, if we got them though is another matter

Rico, Krychowiak, Gamiero, Kolodziejczak for example not to mention some of their older players like Coke and a couple of others - maybe even a late attempt to gazzump mInter over Banega.

Eithr way most managers seem to target their old clubs for a couple of additions, can't see Emery being any different - especially as he has done that before from old teams

Great player.

I saw Seville play live in Seville twice last year and have a couple of thoughts.

Krychowiak is the key to the team. Wins the ball. Gives the ball. However I am not sure he can play at PL intensity as his mobility isn't his best characteristic. I like him but I'm not sure I would buy him.

Gameiro is an erratic finisher but his work rate is like Andy Johnson/Marcus Bent combined. He chases every ball, runs every channel & closes down. He is a pain in the arse to defenders all game. Probably got 3 top years left before his legs go. The anti-Lukaku. Our fans would love him but that does not necessarily mean he is what we need. Personally I'd take the risk at the right price.

Kroon-Dehli is now out injured for 6 months or so but he is the player we think his teammate Ever Banega is. Like Peter Reid physically, tireless, intelligent, imaginative in possession and gets the odd goal. Both times I saw them he outshone Banega and was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. If he wasn't injured I'd love to see us in for him & I don't think he'd cost the world as he is "unsung hero" country. It also says something about Emery that they battered Liverpool without this guy!

Nice post, whats your take on Rico the young keeper they have mate?

Potential on them though far exceeds the level the Sevilla players are at IMO.

We've got plenty of 'potential' currently though mate - Davies, Barkley, Stones (whether he's here or not who knows), Rom (looks off), Funes Mori, Kenny, Galloway, Browning, Del...

Could do with a few players of proven quality (not necessarily from Sevilla, mind) to compliment that.

Good post.

I've watched a decent amount of them this year through work, and one of the writers is a big Sevilla fan (for whatever reason).

For me, Krychowiak is very Barry-esque in that he does seem to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time, but he does also have an eye for goal when he gets in forward positions.

Gameiro, yeh, I agree. He works extremely hard and is perfect for the lone striker role, but would also really compliment a strike partner in a 4-4-2.

It's weird with Krohn-Dehli. He was a forward before he move to Celta Vigo (at the age of 28 I believe), but then improved loads when played as a central midfielder, and yeh he was pretty key for Sevilla before his injury. He is 32 though.
