Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Just wondered what's people's opinion was on centre backs and who we should be aiming for. Let's play devils advocate for s minute and Stones does go we will need surely at least two centre backs ? All the players we seem to be linked with are attacking players . Maybe I'm wrong and have missed some things ... Personally I'd still love a shawcross type of centre half ... No none sense type where defending is his first / second / third style of play as such . And another question do people see Jags as captain next year ? Does he get guarantees as a starter week in week out ?

That young Duffy from Blackburn Rovers looked good for Ireland last night. I wonder if he is worth a punt, oh wait....

Let's get a couple of things into context.

1) Mata and Sneijder are both excellent players;

2) Mata is at his peak;

3) Sneijder is a year or two past his peak.

4) £35m is an AWFUL lot to spend on a 28 year old player who can only play in one position. And make no mistake, although Mata played out wide earlier in his career (in Spain), the evidence form his seasons with Chelsea and Man U is that he is ONLY a 10 in the Prem. A very good 10 - possibly the best, in fact. But he's no winger in this league. Especially not when we have Del, Mirallas and Lennon in the squad: all three are pacy wingers who fit Koeman's tactics. Mata is NOT pacy.

5) 7.5m euro (£5.75m) is an absolute steal for Sneijder. But he too is ONLY a 10 at this point in his career. The critical difference is that unlike Mata he has no prem experience. Can he make the transition?

6) There's more to a transfer than just the fee. What are the proposed wages for Mata and Sneijder?

7) If either of these two come in, Ross is moving back to CM. Long term this is probably his best position IMHO, but is this the right point in his career to move him?

8) If Ross DOESN'T move to CM now, who are we bringing in to play there? If we spend £35m on Mata, how does that affect our shopping for a CM?

9) We need a CB and a GK too...

I'd take Mata at £25m, maybe a bit more. But £35m is too much when you consider how many other holes we have to fill with the budget we have available.

Agree on everything there mate apart from that point. Sneijder still plays at 10 ocassionally but normally plays as a central midfielder in either a 4-2-3-1 (Gala) or 4-3-3 (Holland). He's slowly moving back - and I think Koeman may well be targeting him as a realistic option that gives us some creativity from further back on the pitch.

Of course the added bonus is he also can play 10.

It's a no to sneijder for me, we can get better.
If we can get him for the reported 5m then you won't get anyone near a player of his class and pedigree for that sort of money. I know he'll command large wagers but to bring in a player with his reputation he'll pay off his wagers with out even making an on field impact. He'd make other clubs and opposition fans take notice enhancing our reputation. It'd make players we're chasing really take notice of us and show the likes of Rom and Stones who may be wanting out change their minds by seeing the clubs new intent and how we plan to move forward.

I would love to sign Sneijder, I would even go as far to say I'd buy a kit with his name on it. The only reason I wouldn't want him is we planned on spending a large fee to bring in an attacking midfielder in their peak. If we got Mata I wouldn't want Sneijder as well.

£6.5M for Nani is this mornings rumour I see. I think he's pretty average and a little bit of a bell, but £6.5M is nothing these days is it?

The fee would be covered with what we might get for Kevin Ego Mirallas. Nani is a better player than Mirallas, so its a no brainer. Did Nani captain Portugal last night? Coleman captained the Irish...
