@BlueToff

Kovacic was 22 in may
43 games for dinamo
80 games for inter
25 games for real
29 caps for croatia

barkley was 22 in december
114 games for us
22 caps for england

You rate Kovacic at £18mil ? How about Barkley?

How many goals assists in those apps for Kovacic?

I think he's a good player, but not gonna be devastated if we don't get him.

There's better out there.

However, if he is a target and we get him then equally that's fine by me and I'll get behind him.

Ain't no way Gibson will go for a fee. Or if he does it'll be a nominal one in January, when we've already paid him 1.5m in wages for doing absolutely nothing! Disgraceful to throw a new contract at him.

I'll balance out my anger though by being delighted to see the back of Pienaar/Osman/Hibbert, as I were somehow expecting at least one of those clowns to get a new deal.

There's nothing clown like about Hibbert or Osman. Excellent servants to the club, invaluable at times and should be lauded rather than just written off. Shame.

Some good squad numbers should become available this summer. Coleman can become #2, McGeady leaving will free up #7, maybe Oviedo #8, definitely Kone #9.

From memory it took him a whilst to settle at Inter, when he did he played great, coincided with mancini becoming manager who allowed him to make a mistake or two and gave him confidence - previous manager didn't give him that - sounds a bit familiar with Barkely and moyes maybe

A very very good player from the little i have seen - is he worth 30m though - god knows the prices on players is going a bit mental, and buying off Madrid you will always seemingly pay a bit of a premium

Not my money though so if we got him then wouldn't be that arsed what the fee was overall as the lads a talented player

seems very likely thought that we are after 2 seperate types of centre mid atm, witsel/Schneiderlein (more defnesive minded centre mids)- and Strootman/Kovacic (box to box - full of energy and can create a fair bit type)

Yeh I'd agree with that.

For me, we've got McCarthy who can play the holding role fine, but he lacks the passing ability to give us an only going forward. Barry I imagine will be his final season at the club, though he was brilliant last year.

Koeman often plays 4-3-3/a variation of 4-2-3-1

I think the below set up in midfield could really work next year.

McCarthy/Barry (holding)
Barkley/Kovacic (given a bit of a license to roam)
Schneiderlin/Strootman/Witsel (as the box to box player)

Obviously, the above are just examples.

On Kovacic any time I've seen him I've failed to have been impressed (or, impressed enough to think he's worth any where near 30mil), but I've no doubt he's got talent

Oh right, I must have read it wrong. What did he say?
Eric stated Esk said Mata would be done by Friday. All Esk has said is we are close to a couple of signings, never mentioned any names. He has said we are interested in Mata but never sad we are close to signing him

I hope Koeman has got a list of players from the Southampton scouts (who seem to be very good)
I predict our best player this season will be not be one of the 'marquee signings'
