Heaven forfend, an actual transfer rumour, albeit the Daily Fail:
Rumour: Everton Face Battle to Sign Feyenoord’s Kongolo
Everton are at the centre of a transfer tussle over the signing of Feyenoord’s Terence Kongolo, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims that the Blues, along with fellow Premier League sides Stoke City and Southampton, are looking to move for the young defender.
Kongolo broke through into the first-team at the Dutch club when new Toffees manager Ronald Koeman was in charge of the Eredivisie side.
And the Mail believes that Koeman is keen on a reunion with the centre-half, who is also capable of being deployed at left-back.
Any potential deal for Kongolo is likely to set Everton back around £10m.
Koeman is eager to bolster his defensive options ahead of next term, especially in the wake of John Stones announcing his desire to leave.
The centre back is being eyed by Manchester City, who are expected to bid £50m for the England international in the next seven days.
Kongolo made his first-team debut under Koeman during the 2011/12 campaign, coming on as a late substitute in a 3-0 victory over Excelsior in April 2012.
The 22-year-old went on to feature on another 26 occasions across two seasons under the 53-year-old before Koeman left for Southampton in June 2014.
And Kongolo’s game time has only increased since Koeman’s departure – the defender making 80 appearances in all competitions in the past two years.
He made his senior international debut for the Netherlands in a 1-1 draw with Ecuador in May 2014.
Kongolo was part of then-national side manager Louis Van Gaal’s 2014 World Cup squad, but made just one, very brief cameo at the tournament.
He won his third cap for his country in a 3-2 victory over Wales last November, playing the full 90 minutes at left-back.
