Idrissa Gana is slowly growing into the talented player that had Aston Villa scouts purring.

The 26-year-old was watched for months prior to his £9million move from Lille after statistical findings backed up what Villa’s eyes on the continent had already discovered.

Those crunching the numbers at Bodymoor Heath will be pleased to see Gana progressing nicely in a new deep-lying role.

And recent figures highlighting the Senegal ace as one of the top-performing midfielders in Europe are the icing on the cake for those who recommended him back in the summer.

When it comes to reading the game, the African is way ahead of his team-mates.

Only three players in the top five leagues across Europe have made more interceptions than Gana (86).

In the Premier League, Leicester’s N’Golo Kante (103) ranks ahead of him but the rest of the pack are still chasing.

Gana is also the heartbeat of Villa’s pack with just Kante (102), Lucas Leiva (91), and Erik Pieters (89) completing more tackles than him in the Premier League. In Europe he has recorded the eighth most amount.

So are Villa getting good value for money after signing him in the summer?

You would have to say yes, based on his current form.

Christ, if we end up signing a Gueye and a Kone after I've given it the Mosh millions chat to my United and Lpool mates I need to go into hiding for a while.

Bang average, when you're getting smashed every game you're going to get the chance to get those stats. Villa fans don't even rate him.

I must say that the building slowly but surely method is foolproof, absolutely foolproof! The fact that it has got us absolutely nowhere over the past 20 years is irrelevant, as eventual success is guaranteed, absolutely guaranteed!

Well the last time we rushed into a deal we ended up with everybody's favourite Senegalese...

This is a very important point you have made. None of the other sides around us are sitting still, waiting to build. They're signing new players. We're, as things stand, in a dogfight with the likes of West Ham and the RS. We're nowhere near Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, even Leicester or Spurs. And they'll continue to pull away from us unless we sign some quality and soon.

While I agree on some level, the counterargument to this is that people were saying the same things a year or two back about Newcastle and Aston Villa blowing wads of money during the transfer windows. It's important to remember that signing new players doesn't automatically equate to improving a team. Think of all the players we were mad about "missing out on" who didn't last two years with their teams.

The WRD lid said Koeman is livid with the balance of the squad, hell I spent a lot of time crying about it myself, the squad, whilst full of very talented players is so unbalanced its unreal, it has massive holes all over the place, it needs major work, not spaced out over 3 years, it needs it NOW, if we are to compete.

Who the hell wants to compete in 3 years?

I wanna compete next month, not in 2020.

Are you expecting 11 , 10 , 9 players this summer?

What are your actual expectations as its not clear.

I think I'm becoming team @bizzaro such a shambles GOT has become this summer..
