Can't see it happening this season and I understand why, but personally feel from next season on we will be seeing a lot more of the McCarthy/Besic pairing.

Last season would've been far too early for that imo. Don't think Besic was ready for that role at the time.

Tbf as well, I think he's been average at best earlier in the season whenever he was give opportunities, admittedly they were limited but still, he didn't do enough to make the shirt his own.

I think he was excellent Saturday and has been better in general recently, he now deserves a run in the side

It would only be bizzare if he hadn't had a bad run of injuries in the past two years and if he had done more with his spells coming off the bench. I like Mirallas, I do. However he won't track back well (as does Geri) and to have two of them in the team makes us so open out wide. So that leavces a choice of Deulofeu and Mirallas.... Who has deserved to start?

Thing is they'd want him now because it's their preseason at the moment. They start a training camp at the end of January. Can't see too many MLS teams taking him in the summer since it will be half way through their season and he would be a major player for them to bring in.

Yeah I know it is but we won't let him go in January. Also, Lampard, Pirlo, Villa all joined at that stage and don't forget, American football fans over there see Howard in the same esteem.

I wonder if Joel has always been promised the chance for No 1 as soon as Howard goes, he's had a few run outs and done well, I have no problem giving him a good run. I know it shouldn't be the case but Martinez is being loyal to Howard even after his mistakes, he will never be dropped but I imagine the time is getting near when he heads back to the US. We have other sub keepers and I'd prefer to see if Joel is really up to the grade,when he's played 10 plus games in a row. Save the money as Joel may well turn out to be a very good keeper long term.

in that case we'd really need to buy a backup keeper anyway.
Always best to buy players better than you've already got as opposed to worse.

When Martinez turned down the Norwich approach for Naismith in the summer he stated that it was because he didn't have time to sign a replacement... he would be contradicting himself not to go out and buy a first-team ready forward now, surely!!!
