Everton Transfer Thread 2016

The aim of the game is to get top 6 minimum this season, we have the squad to achieve that, coupled with building a new stadium, that will help bigtime to attract class players to replace Williams, Baines and Jags.

I happen to think Baines and Jags are still top quality players and have another 3 seasons in them, Baines has been training all summer while the Euro's was going on to get back to his best, or very near it, both are top pro's, Jags is the best defender at the club.

There is no chance of top 6 imo.

We have a handful of quality only.

My favourite Radiohead song.

Only somewhat agree on the sentiment here though.

Definitely agree on both counts. The main thing in my view that we needed this summer was improved fitness and the defence to be organised and well drilled. New players are a bonus in my eyes, we had very good players to work with.

But, lets stop being sensible and feed the fume so I can surf the fume waves on Wednesday.

So thats Wenger and also Conte saying they are having a nightmare.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte fears he could fail to bring in the defensive targets he is seeking before the transfer window closes.

The Stamford Bridge boss has made big-money signings in Michy Batshuayi and N'Golo Kante this summer, while goalkeeper Eduardo also moved to the London club this week.

Conte feels defence is still an area he needs to strengthen but has been unable to do a deal for Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessio Romagnoli of AC Milan, with a bid for the latter being rejected.

Now he is worried he will be left short of adequate options at the back because of an inflated market and said: "I must be honest, I think we'll have a problem to reach our targets.

"I hope, through this transfer market, to improve the squad but we understand our targets are very difficult to reach.

"I think the most important thing is to work to improve the squad and improve your players. You know that when you start the season it is already very tough.

"It's important to have many players to face these situations, but this market is very crazy and we are seeing that it's very difficult to reach our targets.
Two clubs that have extremely tight purse strings.

Notice how Man Utd and City had were able to get their targets.

Our fans are getting frustrated at the lack of 'names' being targeted but the 3rd quote This season I thought we would have the easiest transfer market ever,” Wenger added. “We knew what we wanted to do, we knew who we wanted to get but it didn’t come off. So you have to restart is what we and probably quite a few teams are having to do.

It also seems that it not cheaper to buy from abroad anymore. Juve, Dortmund and a couple of others have managed to get quality players at good fee's yet when a PL club comes along they double/treble it knowing we all have money. First we had the stupid 'English Premium', now we have a 'Premier League team' premium.
I've been looking at the transfers between European clubs. They aren't much different than here.

Does anyone really think a 28 year old Higuain is worth £75.3m?

It's just an excuse used by clubs not willing to pay the going rate.

If we keep it tight at the back with Jags and Williams and with Lukaku and Barkley up front we definitely have a shot at top 6, even top 4.

However we would need to stay relatively injury free because our bench is rubbish and Stek would have to be the bargain buy of the season.

Personally I don't think two games is enough to go on and Le Tissier wasn't exactly complimentary of him.

Sign Hart and Kone and if Rom stays fit then I think we have a very good chance of top 6 but I don't expect them to sign.

....he appears to want his wingers to play a certain (inverted) role, almost a hybrid centre forward. Perhaps he thinks the players we currently have are not what he wants.
I'm sure you're right. I imagine if Brahimi comes in we would look to shift someone (ideally McGeady but probably, and in my opinion sadly, Lennon).

I hope we don't sign Brahimi. It would move Deulofeu down the pecking order and I think Deulofeu is a more productive player. Frustrating yes but even when he's being frustrating he gets us goals.

We need a CM and a CB urgently not another bloody winger.
