If you made a list of the top midfielders in the premiership over the last few seasons I doubt he'd get into the top 30.

How about the fact he has been crap ever since being at Newcastle and that he turns up every 8th game or so, utterly crap and for 35m we'd be laughed at. But hey he turns it on 6 games a year and immediately tries to talk up a move to a big team. Desperation if that's what we're going for.
