If we're looking at the central areas of our team next season once shipping out Gibson, Osman etc and also taking into account Barry is 35 at season start...
Were going to have a core group of Barkley,McCarthy and Besic with an untried Tarashaj coming as well. I think we really need one number 8 (box to box player) like
@MoutsGoat said but actually could do wifh a playmaker as well who can play as a number 10 but also deep or on the left.
The 3 Atletico Madrid players, Torres, Niguez and Koke are all top notch. Koke wouldnt be available but Torres was rumoured to be pushing for a move, he'd be a great playmaker to bring in and Niguez can also play both DM and box to box -- he actually could be the perfect Barry replacement.
Having said that, the two Portuguese players Ruben Neves at Porto and Bernardo Silva could also be a good fit.
Playmaker -- Torres /Silva
Number 8 - Neves / Niguez
If we want to make a statement this summer and Martinez has the tv money then we should be in for players of this calibre who match with his "signing young players with top potential" plan. Another one is William Carvalho but im not sure he's Martinez' "type".
Other than the centre, we have signed Niasse already and (although we havent really seen him yet) Martinez has said he's not been signed to compete with Lukaku so we could assume he's going to be on the left. However, Martinez has been after Yarmolenko most likely for the left so....who knows!
What we need is a top notch striker to alternate with Lukaku and actually compete with him. This needs to be a top player, look at Man Utd when they were winninv everything, they had 3 top forwards and rotated them or played 2 up top when needed.
I think even if we signed Yarmolenko for example we would only have Lukaku and Niasse at CF with the useless Kone there so we really need to add one more forward. Im not sure if Martinez will do that though for another season when Kones contract expires.
So, other than a keeper, one (or two) Central player and one centre forward (or Yarmolenko) please!
