I think the vast majority of people accept that you passed on what you were told in good faith, but partly because you wanted to believe there were no limits, you lost sight of reality a bit.
No offence, but because of your background and undoubted success in business, you were also more open to the idea that money talks, but maybe forgot that :-

- Money isn't the be all and end all, and footballers aren't totally driven by cash. Ten years ago that might have been different, but now throwing money at football clubs isn't a nigh on guarantee of success and
- Most of our rivals have similar amounts to spend so the choice for players is much more than it was just a few years ago
The off field plan is likely to be a five year plus one as well, so some patience, and realism is required all round.
