Can you

Can you please provide the evidence that Dowell 'is a class above'. Clearly had a decent spell at Forest but has been poor since? Wigan he has done well but that's bottom end as well.

What actual evidence is there that he is a 'class above'? To be a class above in that league you're expecting him to get 25 goal contributions next season right? Dowell looked a talented player but also looked very, very weak. Having good technique isn't enough anymore.

However, Mark Warburton was sacked as Forest manager on 31 December 2017 and was replaced by Aitor Karanka. Dowell fell out of favour under the new manager and struggled to hold a place in the starting eleven. He played just 59 minutes during the last eight games of the season.

Promoted with Sheff Utd, if he was a class above, why didnt they try and sign him full time? Chris Wilder, who has done one of the best jobs in football in the past 5 years valued having Besic ahead of Dowell.

DERBY MANAGER

Later on, I gave him a few options to come back in the team.
"I don't want to say he failed, but you always want to see with a young guy who comes on loan what is the second part of the season going to give him.
"I wanted to be honest with him because I don't want to interfere with his career.

Meaning, he wasn't going to get a game.

2017–2018Nottingham Forest (loan)38(9)
2019Sheffield United (loan)16(2)
2019–2020Derby County (loan)10(0)
2020Wigan Athletic (loan)12(5)

To be fair those stats are better then our midfield produced last season. Our midfield attacking stats last year are abysmal.

I have absolute faith that I could do more than Tom Davies so taht doesn't say much.

Its relevant though if we are playing trading, i know its a different level, but Dowell scored more after lock down for Wigan then Evertons top scoring midfielder - im not counting Richarlison for the obvious reason.

Im not really going to say whether we should or kept him or cahsed in, because he never did it in the PL, but he wasnt really given a chance either and hes proven in the Championship in my opinion.

Just pointing out his retruns shouldn't be used as a stick as we are abysmal in that Department and not really coming from a strong quality threshold in comparison to those numbers.

Oh I would absolutely say Dowell is a championship player, he can do a good job for the right team there, that's what his record suggests. Mark Warburton liked him and played him (he did well then) and the new manager less keen. Derby didnt work out but at Wigan he did better (although 5 goals, 3 of which were in an 8-0 win, so he didnt rip the trees up).

Davek claims 'he is a class above'. There is zero evidence that he is a class above is what I am pointing out. As I said earlier, there has always looked a player in Dowell but he's also looked quite week and sleight and I'm not sure he impressed much in pre-season games either.

Just because our midfield is absolutely garbage, doesn't mean Dowell would have been the answer. That's not personal to dowell as I think 9/10 players would hav come into that midfield and struggled as there is something majorly rotten within there.

I don't really rate the guy but for a £3m outlay you can't blame Spurs. It's almost a no lose situation for them depending on his wages.

Obviously he was cheaper than if he's contract hadn't run down and then also getting most of the fee back was a big bonus but I'm pleased that Spurs took the risk of buying a player for the posistion that we needed most to be filled.

I find it hard to swing one way or the other on him mate, because i never really think he got a run. I was always impressed with him at underage and on loan, albeit i think you have to give him a foundation to play, i think his more successful loans have given him that. because of that i find it hard to make a definitive judgement on him.

I think dave has a point though, he never really got a run and hes a the point now in his career for his own good he needs to move on and its a good move for him. I will say this though, he may be another victim of the wage bill wagging the club, i ask myself would i prefer Bolaise, Iwobi, Sandro or Dowell in the squad and you know what it is probably Dowell. But Dowell is obviously easier to shift.

Then i think of other players with similar profiles, Vlasic, Lookman, Robinson, maybe even Henry who could contribute may be more so now then before, but we sold them really to keep paying our bloated squad.

A question to ponder are we selling the best of our youth and potential, to maintain bloated irrelevant players contracts. Certainly seems a pattern. Are we making football decisions or business decisions. if we are making the latter i fully expect some of the players we sold to come back and bite us as bad deals.

KDB Says Hi

Did you read my post?

'by various different managers over various seasons'

KDB was at Chelsea for 1 season.

And played under 1 manager.

Obviously one manager can make a wrong judgement on a player. Or a player can have one off season.

But if multiple managers don't see fit to give a player a chance over a period of 3-4 years, then you have to trust their collective judgement
