Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Buying 5,6,7,8,9 players doesn't work, they don't gel and you're goosed again. 3 better quality players will elevate the performances of others and help change mentality.

Agree here. Remember the 03/04 season we stayed up with a record low points total at the time and were abysmal, that summer Rooney left, we all steeled ourselves for a relegation dog fight, Moyes signed Cahill, Arteta (half way through the season) and Bent and we qualified for the CL.

I often think we put to much stock and value on transfers. Certainly to many of them can be divisive, as we have found, yet here we again, going ape manure about needing another 10.

Theo Walcott is our RW and when he’s not fit which is often it’s Alex Iwobi.

More than CM letting us down.
Totally, we definitely do need more than 3-4 players but I would rather we built a side now, we've tried chucking money at a whole new team and been left with these shower of poo, hopefully these next 2-3 seasons we will see the side grow in quality

You've repeatedly been told it's not going to happen. The quality of player can make a huge difference, we all want 11 better players but it's unrealistic and too many at once doesn't work.
I don’t really agree that bringing in 5-6 doesn’t work. I agree that we probably can’t afford to bring in 5-6 quality players but in theory it works just fine. There’s loads of teams who’ve done well after wholesale changes. Wolves have basically bought their entire squad in the last 3 years.

Yeah of course it can work, it's a risk though and if they don't gel you are left with a bloated squad. I think we need players with better mental strength, it's not all about ability, a club like us needs players to believe and work hard for the shirt.

It all depends on what formation Carlo is planning on playing next season

If it's 4-4-2 then youd imagine LM, CM, RM are needed

If it's 4-2-3-1 then probably CM, RW and CAM

I reckon he will stick to 4-4-2 because we got battered by Bournemouth when we swapped. Problem is that it alienates so many of our players that just don't fit into the system

Its very important about what leaves as well, i look at the squad and each position is a squad place to be traded, there are so many wasted by irreverent players and cant be rebuilt by the lack of player movement.

Regardless of transfers the squad needs to be balanced. It also need to be a good cohesive, stable, environment. Has anyone imagined what the dressing room at Everton is like every summer, the amount of players coming, the amount of players leaving, the amount of players returning temporarily then leaving again on loan, the amount of players sitting on contracts running down time kicking their heels. Imagine you are Tom Davies, Gordon, Branthwaite and Kean trying to learn your trade in that environment, its littered with poor examples.

Thats before we talk about the turnover in managers.

There is a lot we can right at Everton, that transfers alone wont fix. Thinking our difficulties are transfers alone is a lazy win mentality that wont work. First things first, is to rationalise the squad and have a stable environment players can count on and develop in, then continuity.

Another 8 transfers in this window, wont help that.

This, how many times over the years have we seen teams do it and come unstuck.
Villa were the last I can remember, about 2 seasons ago I think. They bought an entire team almost
there was another just bstore them

This is a really good point and probably doesn't register with us most of the time. the dressing room environment is crucial and if it's in constant upheaval then how are players going to gel and get to know each other. It makes sense that Brands wants to trim the size of the squad, he is taking a lot of flak for poor recruitment but he also has shifted a lot of rubbish.

CB and Strikers are workable, It's subjective on CB, DCL/Kean/Richy they can do a decent job if we're gonna use last season as evidence with hope of Kean improving and given more game time.
CB is shaky at times but feel it's good enough to finish a decent place in the league long as we cut silly mistakes out.
LM, I have no problems with persisting or rotating with Gordon and Bernard even though the latter has been pretty out of form for a long time.
CM/RW needs players in no question about this.
RB is another 50-50, Won't mind seeing Kenny given a try but also wouldn't mind if we replaced him.

I think a real good quality CM and RW will change us big time.
