I actually thought he was doing pretty well at Bayern but they gave up on him it seems.

He'd be our best winger immediately. If he was cheap we would be absolutely mad to say no so we can play Bernard or Iwobi every week.

Bayern reportedly have the option to sign Coutinho on a permanent contract in the summer of 2020 for €120 million.

Thats why they gave up on him.

Barcelona don't want to take a big loss but that's what happens when you massively overpay to begin with. He's always been a solid player with moments of brilliance but they were talking about him replacing Iniesta which was madness.

So yeah the price is going to be more than we should even consider.

Jagielka at his best was far far superior to Stones or Yobo... because he was a defender first of all who kept the game simple, made barely any silly mistakes and did what he was supposed to do.

Distin was a class defender absolutely no doubt, if only we could have signed him as a younger player.
Lescott was a good player but not in the same class as Jagielka, my memory is that Lescott played one season at left back because he could not get in the middle ahead of Jagielka/Distin but I may not have the correct central pairing.

I thnk that was Yobo/Jags, I want to say Distin was after Lescott.

...and in a way, that’s the point I make with every manager. Building a team is lots to do with blend and players complimenting each other. I would hope the DoF and Manager have a picture in their mind of the team model and how they want to play.

Kendall brought Paul Power and Wayne Clarke into a squad and we won the title. Neither would’ve been on fans wish list, but they played key parts in winning the league. Pienaar came in and formed a great blend with Baines.
