Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Yeh if Uncle Uzi really is here and has some legit avenues to fund us then we'll definitely be fine as, like you say, businesses such as theirs profit in bad times. (The reason they're rich in the first place).

Yes all true. And the question must surely be, if he's not here who has been underpinning the funding thus far? I will make some certain (and to a degree contradictory) observations below;

1) It's very likely USM are funding Everton and they have lots to spend (more so after the crisis)
2) They will not want to broadcast this, so may well want or at the very least be happy to see articles in the Echo saying we are skint. It's good for negotiation.
3) Brands may also have insisted on this. He is a very shrewd negotiator. He will want to pay less
4) I imagine we await further information from the FA. We are till in May. How long into the summer will it be before some overhaul comes for FFP? We obviously have the City trial in June. It could be gone by then. I think we are sitting and waiting currently.
5) The same is probably true for revenues and what leagues can finish.
6) Brands likes to go late into the window, where we have seen, for all but premium players prices tend to drop somewhat. I imagine this trend will be escalated this summer, as people get more desperate.

So overall I would say buckle in, it's going to be a bumpy ride. You will have us linked with just about every player, while perhaps alongside saying we have no money. The truth as it tends to be will be in the middle. What is clear, and impressive is that they clearly want to spend money prudently, even if there is a lot to spend, so we need to put the right steps in to do so.

Highly unlikely but id be sending a few wheelbarrows of cash down to Arsenal for Saka.

That boy ia top top top quality.

The dream, Sandro Tonali.

We may have changed targets...

Reports are that hes been very good for Schalke and potm for march. I think the Dortmund game after the restart was an anomaly.

Been class for Barca especially against Inter.

Could be we want both...or switched targets or that Ancelotti prefers to develop Todibo.

Re Saka, yes would love him and in truth we probably need to be a bit more aggressive with such signings, promising them game time which they may not get in the top 6. However looks like Arsenal will offer a new deal and he will probably stay.

In general the PL list is not as impressive as the Serie A one. I'e just said there's 5 ot 6 I'd happily take on the Serie A list. I'll probably get slaughtered for this but I'd potentially consider Lovren at a real knockdown price. He's a big strong defender, knows the PL and the area, he's a bit error prone but in general quite an aggressive defender. I mean he wouldn't be top choice but one I'd consider. I think Hojberg from Southampton is another with 1 year left, and I think he would be perfect for us at a reduced fee. Probably even more perfect now Gbamin is injured, where we need to find someone who can hit the ground running from day 1.

Tonali I agree with you, there's a real chance there. My gut feeling would be that another side will try to nip in. The hope for us would have to be that he's happy to stay and that we would be happy to pay a bit more than a Chelsea who would just want to be exploiting the situation, so they reject Chelsea's bid and accept ours. As he's generally happy to stay he won't push for a move to Chelsea. A bit of a long shot.

Re Todibo yes could be lots of things at play. Could be a ploy to shift Lille's hands, it could be we moved on, it could be that they have moved on. If you have a deal in principle, reneging on that deal is rarely easy. Given Lille are selling club, and have lots of assets to move on, they may make an example of us to the wider football world, that they are not weak, and if you try to screw them over there will be a retaliation. My gut feeling is, as I said at the time is we will try to lower the deal. If Lille can find a buyer at the fee they want they will pursue that avenue, which is their right.

As for Todibo there are certain reservations I have but I can't say they are massively linked to the circus that is this return of football (the same goes for Kenny). Schalke seem a shambles currently, and Wagner is really struggling. The question is, when you have a 27, 24, 23 year old CB's on the books and then a highly rated 19 year old in Gibson, do you really want to be targeting another 19 year old? I do like his versatility though, and he can play in midfield which given Gbamin's injury could be a big plus.

I think we will sign 2 CB's anyway. I've seen Silva linked and now Godin (even some people mentioning Chiellini) so maybe we want a more experienced CB to go alongside a younger one? With Gbamin injured as well, don't rule out Holgate perhaps moving into midfield.

We will see what happens mate. I, like you, expect the one of the most wealthy men on the planet to assist us in progressing beyond mid table for the first time in 33 years. However if we end up with a sponsorship deal that is in the same bracket as Burnley’s, it is a very clear indication that our mediocrity is set to continue.

And this would be a big disappointment to me tbh!

behave mate

Hoooooo boy that Lovren shout will go over well, I can feel it.

Linked with a player called Jesus Corona at Porto, a right winger and plays right wing back as well depending on the formation, which is certainly a position we need. He is 27.

We have also been linked again with Jesse Lingard, he plays in the same position as Corona and the same age, he has been linked with West Ham and Newcastle too. Im not a big fan of his, I think he is worse than Walcott.

Keep seeing links to Diego Godin and Thiago Silva, I could understand us signing an experienced CB to go alongside the 3 we have for 1 or 2 seasons I could see that being positive, because both have fantastic experience.

Also being linked with Angelo Fulgini, french 23 year old CM, bit of an all rounder, could be a bargain, valued at under £5m, wanted by Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne as well

I think this sort of player, versatile and can play in a couple of different positions could be quite prevalent this summer.

Absolute bare minimum we need, good luck.
Problem will be shifting players from our 23 man squad as Brandts always said that is the number he wants to work with.
-Rb will be Sidibe if we get him for a knockdown fee or bring Kenny back
-Cb is clear, CM at least one with Gbamin. Might depend for a second Cm if we can shift Schneiderlin entering his final year.
-Rm think so but might depend on getting rid of Walcott also in his final year
-Add a striker to the list. Think Kean is going and being used to get Allan/Lozano

I don’t think we will be getting rid of Walcott, we have no other option down the right, so if we lose the player we buy, or he takes a bit of time to settle then we will be struggling. And probably moving Richarlison over.

Same witt Schneiderlin, who I think will stay even if we buy 2 midfielders, which surely is a must now. Why Walcott and Schneiderlin are on big wages. Because of their ages they may be hard to shift anyway.

Personally I would sell Bernard and Tom Davies. They would most likely go for more money and we have a few more options down the left.

It's "funny" but that really is the absolute musts this window. The right side is poor (being generous) but the midfield is just horrific. CB isn't terrible but only Holgate really inspires any confidence
