Since Brands has cme in we have signed 11 players permanantly and 1 on loan (sidebe)

Of those 12 players only Delph (29), Sidebe (27) & Lossl (30) have been over the age of 25, hardly call that bringing all the old gits in!

The Walsh/Koeman/Allardyce era are the ones were we bought an abundance of 28-30 year olds and we are paying for it now!
There was nothing really wrong with the age profile of the players Walsh brought in to be fair, it was just the fact they were rubbish that was the issue.

Yes we have wasted millions on poor players and haven’t challenged as we should have done, a lot to do with poor decisions from Moshiri, I’m not sure if them clubs could attract an Ancelotti.

And as for Leicester, yes done great this season and won the title in 2016. We finished above the next 3 seasons. With koeman, Big Sam And silva in charge. Doesn’t Mean a lot I know, but maybe Leicester don’t get it right every season.
Leicester had to sell a world class midfielder and winger in the two seasons after they won and still turned it around quicker than we did. I'm impressed myself. We only just replaced the one world class player we sold, and it was more by luck than anything as we tried really hard to throw DCL off by doing things like buying Tosun.

I think it was both. I mean I don't actually think there was a lot of thought as to how they made it to the first team. In fairness to Walsh, a lot of that was probably on the coaches he worked with. However a lot of the talented younger players we bought, were ok but just not used.

I mean I look at Braithwaite and the fact hes training with the first team within a couple of months of signing. That sort of thing is important.

I meant more the likes of Bolasie, Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson etc. They were all 27 when we signed them, there's absolutely nothing wrong with signing 27 year olds; it's very marginally older than the profile of most of the players we've signed under Brands and in many ways is the ideal age. The problem is they weren't particularly good 27 year olds, and so haven't been value for money. I think there's only a couple of players Walsh signed who were 'old', he actually signed more young players than Brands I would say. He signed some absolute rubbish though, that's the problem.

I think they’ve had a lot of luck this season virtually no injuries. I think ndidi missed about 3 games. Had 4 or 5 big VAR. decisions in their favour.

Wolves should have beat them twice, both draws, spurs went 2-0 up but for the goal to chalked off. Burnley denied a perfectly good goal right at the end which would have been draw. At 1-1 with Bournemouth tielemams should have seen red for a disgraceful challenge. Then he scored and they won 3-1 he would have also missed the next 3 games and was flying at the time.

If you factor in our shocking VAR decisions , it’s easily a 10 point swing. Add in the injures. And but for covid they would still have to come to a packed goodison. With us maybe 6 points behind them. I know it’s ifs and buts, but when teams aren’t miles apart, luck plays a huge factor.

One other point, Leicester looked like they were hitting the wall pre lockdown vardy, was on a poor run. They had Won 2 out of 8. Their very last game pereira who’s a fantastic right back got injured and was apparently out for 2 months and Maddison got injured as well. Now they will probably be all fit, vardy will be fresh and ready to go. You couldn’t make up really.

I think if we can manage to get a few quality players in this summer. And we finally have a bit of luck in our favour, wouldn’t surprise me if we finished above them next season.

You can look through my posting history but I'm fully on board with Leicester have been lucky as hell, but even if you normalize that a bit they're still probably fighting for 4th which is a damn impressive place for them to be. I think if we have a normal level of luck we might be in the EL places, but I think you have to consider the improvement under Ancelotti which probably doesn't happen if VAR doesn't screw us against Brighton and Spurs. Add those 5 points on and we probably aren't sacking Silva. It's a very strange scenario when you dig into it.

As far as recruitment the key with Leicester is they have a mostly young core. Ndidi, Maddison, Tielemans, Perez, Pereira, Chilwell, Soyuncu, Barnes, etc. are all young enough that they can count on either having them or getting enough of a fee that they can replace them. Our list in that category is much smaller while the number of guys getting on that we have to replace by extra spending is bigger. So while man for man we are close right now, they've put themselves in position to be able to look for improvements instead of replacements. They also have guys who seem to be still improving, another area where we are a bit light.

Kendall Always liked to buy a player for whole the next move was his last big one. He said it made them more focussed. I am sure all the stats heads on here will roll out loads for whole that proved not to be the case, but that is what our greatest ever manager thought!
