Player Valuation: £40m
Spot on mateChelsea signed 11 first team players in their first summer transfer window, the next summer they signed 8. One of the main problems now is that even an average player costs £20m+. Chelsea signed Crespo for £16m, Robben for £12m, Cech for £7m, Drogba and Essien for £24m etc. Transfer fees have exploded and Chelsea were in a better position than we were at the times of takeovers, both in terms of position and with FFP regulations. I don't think you can compare.
City were similar in that regard.
There's no doubt we have spent poorly though.
And to match Chelsea, we would have had to be buying players for between 50 and 100mil
Our debt over the last 4/5 years is something like 225mil. Even if we had spent the money a lot better, it’s very unlikely we would be competing seriously at the top.
It’s a different world now, to when Chelsea or even city spent their money. Fulham came up spent a 100mil and went down. That wouldn’t have happened 15yrs ago.
