Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

I don't claim to be any better or worst than anyone else on here. We all want the same thing. I think by my posts I have shown to just care, probably too much.
I have been to every game home and away this season bar two when I was away. My judgements are based on what I have seen with my own eyes and not what I think or want to guess at.I appreciate everyone has an opinion.

Pickford to me gets a load of unnecessary stick. The EFC fans have not taken to him, maybe because of his personality and also the Origi goal really killed him to the supporters. He can make 10 fantastic saves a game and will always be remembered for the one mistake he makes. I think Carlo needs to decide on him, back him or sell him. If he backs him, we need to lay off him

Baines I think will depart in the summer. Digne I keep but he needs to step himself up because he's been very disappointing this season.
Mina and Holgate best partnership, but neither gets in City or the RS team. Cash in on Keane and buy a class no nonsense CB to partner Mina and bring Holgates game to a new level he could potentially now get too.

RB - major issues. Sidibe is too cold. One good game followed by a disaster. He is a wing back and not cut out for general full back. Coleman for me is no more than a back up, but needs to play Sunday
Kenny - Been getting good reviews in Germany. Would like to see him back

CM - Major issues. Gomes stays. Delph stays. Gylfi and morgan Go. Davies is loaned out for a season to a newly promoted team.

Wings - Bernard stays. Walcott is a tough one but at his age I'd be looking to move him on now. Iwobi has been a major disappointment but for me he stays another season, same as Delph

FW - Tosun goes, DCL stays and gets a new contract and we build a team around Richy, whatever it takes. Kean gets another season

We need to sort the right hand side out, get a CB and 2 class CM, one stopper in the Kante roll and one creative. That's already 5 players without looking at a striker and keeper.
Not sure we will be getting 5 ins like.

My guess 3 in ....4/5 /6 outs.

I highly doubt that we sign 7 first team players. Keane won't be allowed to leave and one of Baines and Coleman will stay as cover. Losing all but 3 of your defenders is way too much turnover for one summer.
It's only too much turnover if the players are good enough though. It's no good keeping a player who you don't rate at all just for the sake of it. For me we need 4 centre halves, and ideally we want to bring one in who's better than all the ones we currently have. I don't see the point in keeping Keane as 4th choice and i'm not sure he'd want to stay if that was the case, so selling him and bringing in a much cheaper squad filler would make sense to me. I think Coleman will stay, mainly because there won't be many takers for a 32 year old right back on his wages.

I disagree. I think our dealings at times, but also teams like Villa and Fulham, have shown that you can only try to bed in so many players at a time and keep the continuity that is necessary to play at this level.

Teams like the RS, City and for a bit Spurs were all very careful with this. They made limited, targeted signings and gave them ample time to get used to the system and league.

Were they? In Guardiola's first 12 months at City they signed 12 first team players. What would you say was limited about that, exactly?

Our problem has been signing players who aren't good enough, not signing too many players. There are countless examples of clubs making a number of signings and it working well, just because there have been times when clubs haven't executed it well doesn't mean it's not a good strategy.

Agree with this really.

It all depends on the level of outgoings, as usual tho.

RB, CB, CM, RW of pretty high quality and then its a case of making do with the rest for now.

City signed 5 players in his first summer for the first team, plus Zinchenko, who eventually stepped up but didn't start there, then Jesus in January. That is probably right about the limit of what you can get away with. They were also not so good that season.

The next year they had the same numbers but Danilo and Mendy were both not full time first XI players and Bernardo only started 15 games despite appearing in 35. So yes you can sign a lot of players but integrating them is a slippery slope. Too much change in the team and you'll struggle.

Yes and the 4 positions you mention must be established players, who go straight into the first team no young promising players who need blooding in and need experience.
I think it's a matter of what's available. Passing up on a promising player for a ready now guy could be detrimental and not even that far down the road. Look how quickly Sigurdsson instead of any of the up and coming attacking players has gone bad

Agree
At this stage we need to improve the first team now not in 2/3 yrs time
4 guaranteed starters with the current starters dropping to the bench and some of the bench sold
Tempted to go all Zatman here but I won’t

That doesn't, in any way, counter the point I made. It's just a way to try to weasel out of being wrong really.
