Everton transfers that seemed *done*

Ravenelli...
Torre Andre Flo..

Paul Ince was another nearly signing in 1997.

Pretty comical when you look at what actually was signed in that summer. And also Kendall re-appointed after likes of Bobby Robson turned down the job.

At least in this currently situation the majority are realistic about the calibre the club can get in.

Jan Eriksson, Swedish centre half. Played a pre season friendly for us. Gave a press conference in an Everton shirt saying how excited he was to be joining.

Didn’t sign.

Sunderland had him for part of 96/97 and he didn't do much there. Then went to play in MLS and retired early 30s.

Looking at some of the names mentioned and these were actually decent near misses as some would've made less impact than Dele.

I do think not getting in someone like Flo in 1997 was poor. Basically Royle quit over that and he was a good player for Chelsea for 2-3 years and they made a 10m profit on him when selling to Rangers. Him and Super Kev would've been lethal aswell.

The Flo one was horrible because Joe Royle left when the chairman wouldn’t sanction the move for him.
One of the great 'what-if's there. What if Joe hadn't walked, could he have ploughed through that injury pandemic that struck us in winter 96/97 and carried on taking us upwards?

Alas, with Peter Johnson and then Bill Kenwright in charge the answer is definitely no. Even if he hadn't left in March 97, he would have had to walk pretty soon after.

Tor Andre Flo and Ravenelli
They both hurt me...

But ravanelli...

Worked at the Reebok stadium with another blue. We were sure it was gonna happen. Then. Dragged on. Went on holiday and paid everyday for the newspaper(s) for updates. Was so sure it'd happen.

It didn't. We'd be citeh now if it had. Of that I'm sure
