I don't think any of us expected anything major from this season, knowing that the squad overhaul was in its first phase. The frustrating part for me is that we've somehow got into a very good position playing some of the most turgid 'football' I've seen, and then still can't put a performance in when it really matters.

We seem to be getting left behind in terms of style of play, with the likes of Villa, West Ham, Leicester and god, even West Brom playing a high tempo, high work rate pressing game.

Not only can our players not play this way, they also don't have the ability to play against it... Not just one or two players though, the majority. Which is a problem.

Without James we seriously lack creativity. We desperately need to be able to turn defence into attack, either with some pace on the wings or someone pulling the strings in the number 10 role.

I think that’s why there may be legs in the Coutinho stories.

Yep Brands is doing great in finding fast big skilful players like Delph, Iwobi, Bernard, Rodriguez...
James still offers something, and if he was 100% wouldn’t be with us, sadly. Ancelotti seemed instrumental in getting Allan too, so hopefully he will have some input in future recruitment.

The more and more I watch modern football, the worse it gets, the excitement just isn't there and I cannot help but think huge wages have ruined the game.

At a club like ours it's almost as these lads know for an actual fact they can't win anything and so put in bare minimum performances. They are rich on the back of half arsing the jobs that pay them so handsomely. Fed up of modern turgid football.

....possibly our most important game of the season, certainly our most disappointing performance of the season. its busy on the individual player/manager threads & it’s hard to defend against criticism.

They had a great opportunity to take advantage of their situation like good teams do. They failed miserably. From ‘Everton are back’ to ‘Everton are crap’ in a week.

We don't even pin teams back when we badly need a goal in last 5 minutes, the other team are comfortable and if anything look like scoring again
If anything when we are drawing going into the final 15mins i always fear we will conceed and lose and if we are ahead by 1 goal i always have that feeling we will conceed to draw - That stat yesterday of the last 26 times we've conceded first at Goodison in the League is W1 D9 L17 is so bad, the 1 is the west brom win

Teams are not built overnight.
We signed good players last summer, let's see what happens this summer.

I don't understand why you say we would struggle next season if things are back to normal . We have suffered more than any other team with our home form because things are not normal.
Goodison is usually a fortress for Everton and hopefully can be again when fans return.

We will be no more at an advantage or disadvantage when things return to normal than anyone else.
Take your point. Problem is when Everton have fortress Goodison to rely on then they usually have a crap away record :(

Apart from some very good GK stuff from Pickford I can't think of anything positive from that game.
Off to the "Post something funny thread". Hope there's something there to put a smile on my face.

The key words being work rate. We are simply 'busy fools' .

The thing that anazes me is how we are still in the top half of the table.

Even in some of the games we have won or drawn this season, we have been decidedly second best and lucky to come away with owt.

And our home form is the stuff of relegation nightmares.

Only Blades and Fulham have worse home recirds than us, I think.

And they are both doomed.
