Arteta hasn't turned up all season apart from the Newcastle game. You need to look elsewhere for an explanation for that draw last night. The fact of the matter is this squad was never good enough. It was all smoke and mirrors. Fellaini has carried us through the season and he wont be seen again, imo.

Correct me if I´m wrong but the lads been coming good since the Chelsea game, Sunderland ,Newcastle.......

To be fair mate moyes has not got a great choice of subs ,we do need bily to step up but it aint going to happen he has no heart or desire .Thanks to the fat mincer getting rid of players in january we are still in with a chance of going down and if arteta is out there are not going to be many wins on the horizon.

i agree with this but what pissses me off is his timiing of subs.........there is very few players in football who can change a game inside 8mins and none of them are at everton

Precisely, the timing is the key. Of course they're not in the same league but take a look at Kalou for Chelsea, he's usually subbed in with around 15-25 minutes of the game remaining, and boy has he made an impact in some games.

Baxter came on in the 87th (?) minute against Reading, just completely pointless.

pretty much it ......on their goal i thought OSSIE could hav done better he misjudged the aerial challange( not the end of the world) but it was like he left to BAINES to deal wit, backed off and looked to cover for BAINES even though carr hadnt got up that far yet and gav the player an easy option to float the ball in....

SAHA must be getting lessons off ROBBIE KEANE there was a pt in the 2nd half where he received the ball on the halfway line at a time when we were desperate for a goal and we only had 4 players closer to our goal ( and 1 was howard).....why would the player we look to stick the ball IN THE NET be the one who wants to start the move so far out???????

interestin bout rodwell (ease off rodwell lovers) the guy has an abundnace of talent and hes young and ours but he isnt the dog bollox in CM as some would like us to believe as his passin is more labourious than attackin

Good read as ever that,i would have been happy and still am with 7 points from the last 3 games, its just the way we drew v birmingham and won at newcastle when most people expected them 2 results the other way round [i did ] that probably disappoint the most [but we are use to that this season] as we could have build on that newcastle result, but we all know what we've been like this season from game to game.

Haven been as down about goings on at Everton on the back of a trip over to the game.

Season 2010/2011 **** right off .

The stat review does show Rodwell basically kept the midfield ticking and the possession high in our favour...which is basically what he was there to do. He did his Arteta-impression by shifting the ball left to right and the momentum going. He's not a player that will cut a defence open with a killer pass so you could say that was laborious...I'd say it what he was there to do.

Which, again, highlights the problem we have with that brand of football. We need a Modric, Silva, Van Der Vaart, Nasri type midfielder slap bang in the centre to open defences. Its clear that Arteta, Rodwell and Fellaini can basically all do the same job apart from unlock a defence based on this season.

I think part of the problem is that there's no one to aim at with the defence-splitting pass because our strikers and widemen aren't making the runs. I think that both Saha and Beckford have it in their game to play on the shoulder of the defender and to get in behind the opposition backline but, for whatever reason, they stand and wait to receive the ball. It's the same story with our 'wingers'. They don't look to get inside the fullback. There's only really Baines that does.

In EB's analysis you could see that Brum played really narrow, so we needed to go round them. Ossie, as well as he played on the night, was never going to get to the byeline and put something into the box. If we'd put Bily on to swing balls over with his left foot it would have drawn Carr out to cut off the supply line and then Baines could have exploited the space.

I would have liked to see Rodwell drive forward with the ball and get into the box like Arteta did against Newcastle or the youngster himself did against United not so long ago. If he didn't break through himself the chances were that he'd draw men to him and create space for others or that he'd win us setpieces in a dangerous area.

Problem is, as long as Tim Cahill will be a starter for Everton we won't have place for this type of midfielders.
