After that additional interview where he was explaining the formation, I'd be shocked if he changes it back to a flat back 4 unless personell forces his hand.

He obviously feels we are massively weak at the back and likes the protection it provides, though it massively stifles us up top. I think hes got to bring DCL back in, Richarlison back out wide and I'd give Dele a go, we need someone who isn't afraid of having the ball.

Tbf I think Gray and Gordon both like having the ball. Issue is they like having it too much!

I like the sentiment and pushed for el Ghazi in another thread but I don’t trust Gomes for 90.

Maybe not but I agree that we need something other than workhorses in midfield and of Gomes Alli and him I’d give it to him. Could be wrong but Gomes wasn’t match fit for 90 before this injury and something must be horribly wrong with alli not to get a sniff so process of elimination.

There is also, improbably, Davies, but also match fitness concern and he doesn’t really fit the bill either

Exactly, memories are so short, Gomes cannot play for us again. Frank might have got Iwobi to be something better than utter tripe but I don't think he can work a miracle on poor Andre. Would be great to think otherwise but let's not get carried away. Also think we need 3 in the middle to combat the Dane. I don't think our performances with 5 at the back suggest it is any more defensively adept than with 4. Pickford made match winning saves against Chelsea and Leicester, we would have lost both without them. Let's go for a win rather than trying not to lose.

I guess he isn't showing enough in training for Frank to see anything so far. We're so limited though and could do with someone who can actually thread a decent pass through.

Yep, someone who sees a forward ball and can actually look after the ball in the top end of the pitch. Between Richarlison, Gordon and Gray, they've scored 17 goals between them and 9 assists. They're just not creative enough as a front 3 and they don't work in tandem together.

I agree. I think he'd work well as one of the front three. He should have been given a chance the other night off the bench.

100% should have got minutes. It was the perfect game to bring him on because everyone saying he doesn't defend/track back, he wouldn't have to as Watford were happy with the point.

He doesn't get flustered with the ball and let's be honest, when we counter and have a 3 on 2 or 4 on 2, are tou ever confident that we'll put the ball in the back of the net? Me neither because they panic, get flustered and always make the wrong decision.

If he's going to persist with 5 at the back to try and see us through, then we need a bit of magic in the top end of the pitch to get us over the line.

True, and that's my concern: we're much better without the ball, but I do expect us to have more of it at Goodison on Sunday. As counter-intuitive as it may sound, I think a slightly better Watford side last night may have worked better for us, as the counter game is really the only method that's working at the moment; give us a decent share of the possession and a chance to shine, and we'll almost invariably fluff our lines.

That was my take when I thought about it afterwards Watford were too poor for our tactics to be effective against them. That’s really strange

I think Frank will go back to that, crowd out Eriksen's space in the middle to shut down their main source of creativity
