We were very poor today but got the result which was the most important thing. I think the reason why the game was poor was because Palace were set up to frustrate rather than play and we still struggle to break teams down who start that way.

Anyway a win is a win and up to eight now and another clean sheet. As for Palace if they continue to play that way then they look destined for relegation

Were we?

First half we lacked a bit of pace to our play. Palace defended well and yes, we were fortunate that they didn't score.

Second half we came out quickly but just couldn't find the opening. They hit us on the break and Zaha - an excellent player - drew the foul from Coleman. Big save from Pickford.

The subs helped us massively and after that penalty save we were the better team and the only one looking likely to win it.

Not a vintage display, and definitely not our best, but I wouldn't say poor.

Palace stifled our attacking threat and matched for the majority of the first half imo.but I spoke to my boy at half time ( who's down in London) and said that i felt the second half would be different and we'd get in top. I was right but then the penalty ...... Saved by what I I thought, was a magnificent Pickford for most of the game then it was one way traffic!!! At 78-78 mins I thought we were going to end with a decent second half performance, but 1 point!
In wonderful hindsight I think we managed to dig deep, keep going and get through a tough team.....we never gave up. This was Everton yeh????

So happy today with the work rate, Gomes, Silva and the trans resilient attitude. Front four didn't and weren't allowed to be at there best today but 2-0 is what everyone will remember.
Proud of my club, proud of the manager and prourt to be in the Everton family again. Don't get me wrong I've sternely backed us even when we have been crap bit there is a different feel to our club, even though we didn't have the best game. I'm sure, confident even, that we won't go backwards now. Cant wait to play It's next week....let's be honest we should have beaten Arsenal, let's not forget that. They will come at us and we now have the pace to counter in a serious way.

COYB, my 40 year love affair with you is seriously reignighting.....

Nil Satis Nisi Optimum..................................

Just saw on MOTD. Disapointing for us but no real complaints. Everton due a pen from Tomkins wrestle on Ricarlson. Things will get worse for us in the short term (Arse, Chelsea, Spurs and Man U next 4) but we have a decent enough squad. Kouyate header goes in,Luka doesn't miss, small margins.
Anyhow, well in lids.

If that was the incident I thought it would have been soft, tbh.

No, I dont see where Taylor had a bad game, tbh.
He was horrendous Dave. Desperate to dish out yellows and give Zaha free kick after free kick, yet showed significant lenience to at least two bootable fouls on Richarlison. The penalty was softer than soft, and to ignore Zaha’s Persistent diving

To be fair to palace you defended brilliantly and stifled is for the best part of 85 mins. Hunted in packs and made our front 4 invisible

In the past we’d struggle to put that to bed. Palace were really good today with their setup, deep and compact and didn’t give us an ounce of space.

But 3 really positive subs all with attacking intent won the game

Silva takes the credit for the is one

Totally agree. But, “an ounce of space”. Is that even possible?

Surprising amount of coverage on MOTD (managing to miss out most of Tomkins' fouls on Richarlison). Having seen the "penalty" award again, yes Seamus does tap Zaha's ankle but there's a half second pause before he threw himself to the ground - something he's very good at. Our Oumar would have earned himself a red for that :dodgy:

Exactly right Kevin. There was the slightest contact, a half second delay, and then Zaha fell to the ground. There was enough of a delay to confirm for me that he knew exactly what he was doing and a very poor referee 'bought it'.
Justice was done by Pickford saving the resulting penalty.
It was interesting to note just how niggly Zaha was throughout the game considering he's been bleating so much about referee's not protecting him. If he's going to make public complaints like that, then he needs to make sure that he himself is above any similar criticism. A very overrated player in my opinion with a very questionable attitude.

Zaha earned it well by leaving his leg in unnaturally to be clipped. Proper manufacturing of contact but that's the game now, those are usually given. Just the lack of consistency is the problem when he doesn't give the one on Richarlison.

I can see exactly why though Zaha does sometimes not get the proper stonewall fouls. And it's his own fault tbh. He's constantly looking for opportunities to engineer contact and he proper milks it. Love him on my team mind you.
