Yeah there are scenarios we finish ahead of Burnley on GD but they’d have to lose 4-0 at least v Villa for them to be in play.

My feeling for a long time is their is a distinct lack of commitment in this squad. I dont see much evidence to the contrary.

The point is that if we can't beat a fairly mediocre side at home in such an important game then we deserve relegation because the team is championship standard. The game itself isn't why we deserve it obviously but its a perfect symbol of why we deserve it.

The real problem is 99% of the players we have really are championship standard at best and all the support from both fans and the manager can only get them so far. We just have to hope that on Thursday we get a full 90mins of the of play that matches opening 18mins we got today.

I genuinely don’t agree re the standard of our players, and that’s what I’ve been most baffled about all season. I think, objectively, we should be somewhere around 10-12th.

How we have played to date is the reason we are where we are.

I’m frustrated that we didn’t go for it at Watford and at the horrendous luck/officiating for the should-be pen today because that killed our momentum stone dead and it left us in the position you rightly point out as effectively a shootout v Palace. We now have to summon a resolve we haven’t shown all season and/or a technical footballing performance we have barely seen all season to avoid having to rely on blind luck.

I land somewhere in the middle. I imagine there’s some that don’t fancy it, and I also think that there’s been an astonishing lack of quality for large parts of the season. I don’t think that’s because our players aren’t capable, though, I just think Benitez ended up being the catastrophic appointment that many on here (myself not included, admittedly) thought he’d be.

I’m kind of the opposite. I don’t want to think about the next two games, but don’t think the prospect of starting next season in the Champo is the end of the world, much as I’d prefer not to!!!

One way or another a change is coming and I sincerely hope we’re all speaking in much more glowing tones this time next year.

In the meantime I’ll take whatever turgid crap or lucky breaks we can get in order to scrape by and just have this season over with.
