State of us, one week before the season starts. Horrific by Everton this summer. Should be putting final tweaks to squad and feeling confident, yet we're horribly out of shape and have made no improvements to the squad at all.

Espanyol is the Catalan spelling.

Traditionally Espanyol is supported by Catalans who, while being proud of their language and culture, do not want to cecede from Spain. There us a fairly obvious clue in the name of the club!!

Barca is generally much more Catalan nationalist and their fans want complete independence.

Generally, the rest of Spain- with the possible exception of the Basques, can't stand Barca and its in your face Catalan supremacy attitude.

I always thought Espanyol's bedrock support was made up of people living in Barcelona but who were not of indigenous Catalan stock.....their parents or grandparents having migrated there from Andalucia, Castilla, Extremadura or other Spanish regions.

And yes, Barcelona is not popular in those other Spanish regions.
