No offense meant but I think that's nonsense personally. No team's ever won stuff due to fans' optimism. Nor do they lose out on trophies because the fans have a pessimistic outlook.
It's the other way round actually. teams win stuff because they're good enough which breeds an optimistic attitude amongst the fans. The more sustained the success, eg. the rs under Shankley, Paisley, Fagin and Dalglish or Utd under Ferguson the more accustomed the fans get and the more ingrained that attitude becomes.
This then translates into what we often refer to as a sense of entitlement eg. rs and Utd fans. To a lesser degree, Arsenal fans. A whole generation of whom have watched their team qualify for the Champions League and win trophies on a fairly regular basis.

And, obviously, the opposite is true. The longer a club goes without winning stuff, the more fatalistic the fans become.
Good post that Jamo, apart from spelling Joe Fagan’s name wrong, that Fagin is from Oliver Twist!!

They are far and away a superior squad to ours
They are almost guaranteed top 4

Yep. That’s why I don’t understand some of the shouts for prioritising the Sheffield United game. I can’t see this group of players getting top 4. Liverpool and City are certainties then we have to finish ahead of two of United Spurs Chelsea to get it. I just can’t see that happening unless we unearth a game changer in January (a Fernandes/Suarez level type) or one of these teams come off the rails completely (e.g Son gets injured and Mourinho implodes).

This is the most important game of our season until the FA cup game. We have to go full strength at this. Nothing is more important than ending the trophy drought.

Not saying the game isn’t important but finishing ahead of chelsea, United and or spurs or beating Man City in a semi or final. I think the odds are as good as each other or even better to finish ahead of them. Imo

Both are very difficult tasks but there’s still least the chance of catching City or Spurs on a complete one off game potentially at Goodison or even going through on pens. We could draw three games and win this cup.

Getting top 4 will be extremely difficult in my view. Unless James comes back in absolute god mode at number 10 and the defence stays as solid as it is. If DCL or Richarlison are out for any period of time though we’ll more than likely struggle. Chelsea can just bring Giroud off the bench, Spurs can bring on Bale Bergwijn Vinicius, United have an absolute wealth of players.

If Villa win both there games in hand they.go second, I know what you mean, I just dont see City sticking with it, even games they have won this season they don't look impressive
Either have most teams to be fair .
But they have the squad and experience of doin it . Spurs have one point from 9, Chelsea lost twice in a week , leciester lost at home to Fulham and then to us .

Everton is in a good run of form but not many here give us much chance of winning this match. Why are pundits constantly claiming that OGS is on the
verge of getting sacked? It's because Man Utd are rarely convincing even when they win and usually look poor when they don't. That 1-3 loss came
during a poor run of results and we're in better shape now.

I think he will play the strongest against united and Sheffield
Rest players against City and bring Coleman and James back
Points there for the taking against Sheffield, not so much at City

I just looked at the odds for Everton v City game.
You boys are almost 5/1 to for a home win! That's amazing
value and the 6/4 for the Double Chance (Everton win or draw)
is well overpriced me thinks.

People are way way over flating this game. It’s a quarter final not a semi or final. Spurs/City/Arsenal are still in this cup. There a chance we might get a Newcastle or Brentford but you know we will get Spurs or City if we beat Utd.
Leagues way more important. Rotate vs SU we are not a very good squad and lose then get beat by City which is possible and suddenly we are 8/9th
I’d love to win a trophy but there still a long way to go in it
