Nothing ironic about it at all. He is a defeatist and has set up to draw even against much poorer teams and he has already written this season off now we have 40 points and is planning for next season. I doubt many evertonians are expecting us to beat City or Liverpool, not just because we are crud but because they have both been excellent this season and are likely to score several goals no matter what we do.
I would rather have a good go at them and be beaten than sit back and still get beaten and embarrassed.

4 points from City and Liverpool? I would love that but its not exactly very realistic. It is closer to fantasy than reality given the mostly negative anti football we have been served up this season and how good City and Liverpool have been.
All my optimism has been completely drained this season unfortunately so yep i am being defeatist although i would call it 'realist' and probably will be until we get a more competent manager, players and hierarchy.
