Match Thread Everton v Southampton

First half was one of the best I’ve seen recently. Agree with most that Schneiderlin was good today and Sigurdsson will prove his worth this season.
Keane was ok but he’s just so slow. He’ll get absolutely rinsed by better strikers.
My main concern today was how quickly Walcott switches off when we don’t have possession. Richarlison is so good at helping Baines out and putting a shift in, but Walcott on the other side doesn’t show the same awareness.
Maybe being harsh because he scored and assisted but he’ll have to up hisnall-round game if he’s to be a regular in the starting line-up.

Southampton commited 20 fouls and received only a generous five yellows

... And mark Hughes blames the ref for the game being stop start hahaha the man is deluded beyond doubt, we would have scored six if the ref was allowed to let the game flow. Actually think Mason had a good game for once, no doubt Hughes' tactics would have been to make the game as stop start as possible as they weren't going to trouble us from open play.

great performance in the first half , nervy second half and a shame we didn't slot more chances away.
room for improvement, but a few players look like they are starting to have a bit of belief in there football again.

is it just me or is the goodison crowd not that rowdy and a bit dull nowadays ? more often than not the camera went to the crowd and they were sitting in silence !

also, isn't mark hughes just totally unilkable ?

Mark Hughes claiming pickford shoul have been sent off fo his challenge on ings lol
After his team tried to kick us off the park;)

Not seen a replay yet, but from where we sit, he’s not far wrong!

Pickford was ready to go for it, then hesitated slightly as the ball bounced with backspin. Then lunged. I’d say he deffo got the ball first, but he caught Ings. Ripped his shirt. Close call.

Hughes will not see Christmas as manager of Southampton. How both teams’ fortunes have changed since that shameful away performance at St Mary’s. I think we had more shots on target in the first half than we managed for two months under Allardyce. Great to see attacking football back on the agenda at Goodison, but agree with other posters, naturally, a lot more cohesion still to come.

I'm still cautiously optimistic because of our vile pre-season and because we're two games in, but it's nice to see so many fans genuinely enjoying watching us play. I'm in DMs on Facebook with my brother, who's got a season ticket, and he said it was 'exciting to watch, unlike that crap Old Gravyface was serving up last season'.

ETA: Hughes is a bitter old sod, isn't he?
