Injuries haven't helped, but Martinez has failed to make good decisions. And I think the reason for that, Dave, is simply our injury problems. They've robbed us of any chance at establishing a regular starting XI, with players getting to develop a chemistry that allows them to sense where the others will be at any given moment and play fluidly, much like Baines and Pienaar at times. You could see it today -- passes were made with the assumption the receiving player would be where the passer thought he would be, only to see the receiving player do something different. Give the team a run of a few games with an unchanged lineup and see what happens.
Shhiiiiii......
But won

He's having a very conservative second season. IMO he's foxed on how to get the PL/EL balance right and making some bizarre team selections.
I don't mind if he picks bizarre teams and get results but we got lucky today but we've been unlucky in previous matchesInjuries haven't helped, but Martinez has failed to make good decisions.

Agreed. Still find the Hibbo/ Garbutt selection a bit odd. Can't have done the young man's self confidence much goodPerhaps, but then again he didn't have that issue to deal with last season and it's something I prefer he had to wrestle with instead of another season without Europe. He'll get it right once we get more starters healthy and we secure a spot in the knockout stages.
Did we play that poorly ijjy?
Wow. Glad you're not our manager. What a boost you'd give our young players
what do you want him to do, beat 2 or 3 men get to the bye line and put in a perfect cross with his swinger
