Downing had our midfield in his back pocket.
Ha Ha Ha.West Ham had far to much time on the ball in the middles of the park, a better team would have crucified us tonight. The corner count was unreal all because we allowed them to turn and run at us.
The goal saved a lot of blushes tonight and papered over a very average performance.
Besic and Luakus performace, coupled with fighting to the end, was the only positive from tonight
The whole team still look terrified IMO which is why the support is so important.I came out of the ground so angry for so many reasons. There were positives, we look like we have a bit of our attacking guile back and Lukaku, Besic were very very good. But that was not a good West Ham side - not as good as the one we face not so long back and beat, we should have torn them to pieces. We are lacking so much confidence
Distin was shocking and I echo other's thoughts that I would not be bothered never to see him again. Jagielka is just shot, he is no captain - when we needed pushing on today, when the crowd was up and begging for the team to push on he should have been dragging that defense and midfield up the pitch but instead he stumbled about with Carlton effin Cole - 'I like Phil, nice bloke but a terrible captain'...wow were have we heard that before!?
Just before the build up for their goal I think it was Lukaku and Naismith who were harrying the West Ham defence and you could sense they were bricking it. But I look up and the rest of the team was stood around waiting for the ball to come back. I couldn't believe it! It's signs like that which signify a lot of this bad form is down to the lads on the pitch as much as it is with Bobby, just a real half-arsed attitude. Which is why actually seeing us rally late on came as a pleasant surprise.
The other thing that wound me up was obviously the ref, just an absolute meff who time and again hindered us. The standard is just going from bad to worse in this country with officials.
Oh and a quick one about Ross, he looks terrified to play football. He looks terrified to make a mistake or have a shot that won't scream in to the back of the net so much so that he ends up making a bad decision. I really hope for his sake the team picks up and his confidence rises with it as he really is a terrific talent.
I've calmed down now, we'll beat City then do West Ham in the cup...easy.
He played well tonight. He's done sound since Big Sam gave him a more central role.
Thought the back four, especially the two CBs, were dreadful. Oviedo was okay going forward but defended poorly, it needs to be LM or nothing for him.
Lukaku was outstanding, Barkley and Besic very good too. We were much better and would have won if not for two gutlessly poor defensive performances at the back.
Don't think we'll win the replay, but the late goal was a rare fun moment this season, and Rom deserved it especially after the ref cheated him out of the earlier one.
In short, it was much better but Jagielka and Distin depress me.
Lukaku's best game for some time, full of energy and although not everything he tried came off he did drag us back into the game. Besic gets better with each game, and for one as young and inexperienced he's doing a cracking job of integrating into the side. Robles did nothing wrong and that will do wonders for his confidence. Oviedo grew into the game and always looks composed.
On the negative side I thought Jagielka was scared stiff tonight....scared to make a mistake ( which just made him make more), scared to try and dictate play from the back and not strong enough or vocal enough to be a dominant captain. Distin won plenty of headers and did the basics a lot better. Barry too was more progressive.
The big disappointment for me tonight was Kevin Mirallas who looked disinterested and lacklustre the whole time he was on the pitch....how some can say they were surprised he was hooked is beyond me.....he was really poor tonight.
However, I thought on the whole it was a much improved performance, and confirmed to me that this notion that there's a dressing room revolt is absolute rubbish.
Ha Ha Ha.
You're gutted because we never lost.
Incredible.
Putting him on the wing for Poyet's son was the turning point for us.
Barkley very good? He gave the ball away too much, very sloppy tonight.
