Everton V West Ham FA Cup 6/01/15

Feels like 1993/94 all over - we lost 5 consecutive games that Xmas (hoping its not repeated v City but might be asking a bit much) and went six games without scoring.
I remember that season albeit a bit earlier and in LC we got a last gasp equaliser v Palace and smashed them 4-1 down there in replay only to go out v Man U next round.
Keep thinking to myself "come on Everton snap out of this" but we seem to falling short in all areas at mo. I must admit I am panicking and looking at the fixture we have left we MUST beat WBA and avoid defeat to Palace as a minimum if we are to avoid being in the mix for relegation come that last month of the season.

was arguing with the ref after the whistle. walked away headshaking. also pressed a lot and fetched the ball for their free kicks to make them get on with it.

great attitude for me!
Laughed my head off when he did the old pro thing of saving time by picking up the ball and going up to the player to hand it over. He did it to Cresswell and then nearly punted him over with the force of his 'handover'.

I would say that. Still got a long ways to go before we start talking like that and I really feel this match could be a turning point in the season to be honest with you.

West Ham had far to much time on the ball in the middles of the park, a better team would have crucified us tonight. The corner count was unreal all because we allowed them to turn and run at us.

The goal saved a lot of blushes tonight and papered over a very average performance.

Besic and Luakus performace, coupled with fighting to the end, was the only positive from tonight

Sorry, but this does sound to me like you have made up your mind and are just going to bang that drum.

The positive is, that in the context of the horrible run we are on, this was a sign of general improvement on the previous games and their is hope that the goal can give them some kind of belief back. I'd be thinking maybe our great manager of last season can really turn this around and get back on track, but you have just analysed the negatives and briefly listed a couple of positives.

Hilarious. Anyone who was critical of that performance 'wanted us to lose', or 'was gutted' when the equalising goal went in.

You couldn't make it up. This what divides the fanbase.

Pathetic.

No, what "divides" (if you really want to call it that) this fanbase is the over the top negativity from some of the supporters in this fan base, that's what divides the fanbase to be honest. We got a good result today and people want to feel gutted about that and I don't blame some for wanting to feel different about that.

Not to mention I wouldn't call people "pathetic" just because they share a different viewpoint then you, that they rather have people think of the positives of the game instead of wallowing in the negatives. Nothing pathetic about that.

You can be critical of the team and still feel that this result is a step in the direction. You can still feel the team has work to do with regards to tactics and defense and still feel good about the result. Those feeling can be hand in hand with each other.

Exactly, and I'd hazard guess that is the way most people feel.

Unfortunately though there are those among us who a determined to see it in black and white terms; you either love the boss or you hate him, etc. And if you want him out you must therefore have wanted us to lose and vice-versa. It's puerile in the extreme.

The fact is that the vast majority of us look at the situation objectively and adopt a position somewhere in between the 2 extremes.

Had to record the game today as I've been away for work. When I'm back home should I watch the whole thing? Last 10 minutes? What do you think GOT?
I think the traffic around Goodison is a nightmare after the match.

Watch it all and switch it off with 5 minutes to go.

Try and throw your scarf into the kitchen from the living room for good measure.

Probably already been posted but still, Allardyce's quote on Lukaku.

“A rash moment cost us the victory,” lamented Sam Allardyce. “Winston Reid and Joey O’Brien dived in and that damned man scored against us again. As he always does.”

excellent.

Baby steps people, the lack of confidence really cant be downplayed, means an extra touch at times, a pause in decision making, a self doubt in an action.

Hopefully the fight back and a bit more of a positive reaction from the fans will give them a bit more confidence going forward and things should start going back to a silkier style

Ok, I see where coming from and I agree. In my opinion you can't look at sports in extremes.

You can't look and at a match where they lost and say it was a [Poor language removed] performance and the manager needs to be sacked ASAP or look at a match where they won and say everything is fantastic, the team looks great, the manager is a genius and everything is just sunshine, unicorns and gumdrops, that in sports you do have to adopt a position in the middle.

It just doesn't work that way by looking at a match from a certain extreme because there are matches where a team is won and can pick out particulars that the team needs to work on and you can look at a match that a team lost and can pick out positives the team did that you can hang your hat on moving forward because that's just being objective.

I agree that you can't look at it in extremes because in every match in are always particulars that don't go along with the match result or that regarding the players and manager you can look at positives aspects from them as well as certain aspects from their game they need to work on.

Take my position on Roberto Martinez. My position on him is I think he's a good manager and a guy we should stick with, but at the same time there are aspects of him I wish he would change such as adjusting more in games, his sub selection and his positive statements in his post game presser after EFC just had a pathetic performance (Bobby, it's OK to say Everton played a lousy game, more people would respect you for being honest but instead you look like a fool when you talk like that).

By taking an extreme I would say that Martinez is a good manager and everyone should quit your whining and back him. No I won't do that because comments like that aren't helpful at all and because i'm objective and choose to look at sports from a middle ground perspective and it's better to look at the team that way instead of an everything is good/everything is bad extreme.
