What's the formation?
It’ll be the same as pre season surely.

3 4 3 / 5 2 3 / 3 5 2 - whatever variation of that Lampard has been playing ?

Pickford
Godfrey Mina tarkowsi
Iwobi doucoure gueye mykolenko
Grey Dele Gordon

Could argue that McNeill might get a start over grey, but other than that , with the lack of options the team pretty much picks itself.

I think Gueye's return changes the possibilities we have once we have Coleman fit.

We cant be chained to 3 at the back all season.

I think certainly once we have a reliable midfield 3, a back 4 will return. I'm far more optimistic about Patterson than you are but agree he can't be going into a back 4 right now. Hopefully the first cup game of the season might give him an opportunity to show he can cut it in a back 4.

If he learns how to defend he can slot in there.

That ball he shovelled out to a Kiev player last Friday on the edge of the box would have been in the back of the net if it'd have landed to a Chelsea player this weekend.

Assuming no Mina & Allan, plus Gueye not being signed in time, we'll pretty much have to go with this..
