The really interesting thing about this goal despite being sexy on the eye, is look at the triangles, ive been saying it for weeks, we need to better support the offensive players - by that i mean their has to be an outlet to give and receive the ball, the triangle has to constantly move to penetrate - in this case the tirangle is McNeill, Maupay and Iwobi.

Look at the video and the triangle, McNeill has two out-balls and Iwobi and Maupay are creating the triangle. The defenders have a decision to make whether to track and cover Maupay or Iwobi or close McNeill, this indecision creates the space and their is an overload of options that creates the chance. This is what ive been banging on about - about support play, creating outball triangles, creating options and overloads.

This is what we must do, if we are playing this philosophy, that goal is a perfect example.

Iwobi's assist is brilliant, but if you actually look at Maupay movement, he takes Anderson out of the phase and creates that space for McNeill - quite brilliant i hadn't noticed until i watched it back, Maupay was class there.
It was a quality phase of play. Their defence got dragged all over the shop leaving McNeil acres to run into.

that is why teams try to play out from the back, when it works, the opposition is really stretched, there are big spaces to triangle pass around and when it breaks out of the defence line, the attack moves really quickly up the pitch
That’s what frustrated me so much against Newcastle.

I know they were a lot more rigid and compact, but we’d knock it between the defence and midfield a couple of times, lose patience and then go straight back and hoof it upfield where they had 6’9 Dan Burn, Fabian Schar and Sven Botman.

I've gone for Iwobi, (could of given it to anyone apart from Pickford just because he didn't have anything to do) as usual played out of his skin. Work rate and fitness are amazing. But adding skill and vision to his game.

He was brilliant in the run in last season. But he is like a new player this season. Never thought he could play the way he does now, especially in the middle.

It was the hardest game to choose MOTM. There are too many good performances today. But I end up voting for Iwobi because he is everywhere, from right side to central to left side. And pop up in defense. Not mention that wonderful assist. Who is this Iwobi?

Tactics, player's energy worked today. slight tactical change it seems. Well done. hope can build on this performance. I hope FL can work on each player gelling with each other. I feel certain part of our team has yet to gel and we can be quite deadly once they do.
In the Derby and West Ham we played higher up the pitch, there where signs that we played a little too deep against Spurs and Newcastle, we made the pitch smaller yesterday pressed higher which could have been interpreted as risky against some skilful palace players but Ghana and Onana didn’t give them an inch aswell as the team and gave us the platform for the win. This is the direction of travel we need to go.
