Anyone else concerned about how many times the defence got caught with balls over the top?
May just be early season rust buy had me worried.
No, I thought he was caught out of position frequently and didn't stop crosses coming over. He's still learning and I like him lots, but I'd be frightened to see him playing a PL team with decent wingers at the moment (without very good help in front of him).Did anyone else think that Coleman had an excellent game defensively last night, I think signs are there that he will eventually drop back to right-back full time when Neville retires.

he will be a good right-back in a season or two's time mate, he has all the ingredients without a shadow of a doubt.
Oh, on the Cahill thing - he started as a defensive midfielder, didn't he? Why not give him the role which we give Fellaini or something - just to steal the ball and pass it to the man in front of him. He surely has the strength and ambition/aggression to play there, plus he's getting older and slower to play as a forward. Stick him there as a lone DM, Arteta and Osman/Fellaini/Rodwell/Barkley/whatever in front of him and with 2 wingers and a lone striker and we're not changing much the tactic, but we are changing how we play for sure. Especially if we go with a very fluid tactic, like we did yesterday.
Just a thought like.
Based on his performance yesterday, Gueye should be starting matches in my opinion. He's going to be an absolute class player. If i was to pick an ideal formation at the start of the season it would be this:
Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
Arteta Fellaini Osman Gueye
Saha Beckford
We'd get smashed. 10 men, no keeper, no Phil Nev pointing at stuff. 10-0 Spurs FFS.
Agreed with ijjy, I'd at least play a sweeper if we're not playing a keeper so he can head the odd one off the line.
I wonder if Moyes has thought seriously this season about playing a rush goalie...always used to work when we used to play in the park and nobody will be ready for it.

And who better to play the role than Phil Jags? I think we've uncovered something truly special here.
