Everton vs Man City - 10th Jan, 2015.

Fernandinho is calling on his team-mates to reproduce the spirit of last season’s title run when the champions travel to Goodison Park on Saturday.
City secured a crucial 3-2 win over the Toffees last May to edge closer to the Premier League crown and the Brazilian midfielder believes the same level of commitment and effort will be needed to overcome the Merseysiders who have won just one of their last nine games.

“I have only played at Goodison Park once but it was a very difficult game for us,” said Ferna. “I remember they started very well and scored a beautiful goal early on, but were in the middle of a fantastic run and we came back strongly to win the game.

“I know Everton have had a tough few months, but they have some very good players and I believe we will need to give the same level of performance as we did last season in order to come away with a victory.”

With Yaya Toure away on international duty for the next five weeks or so, Fernandinho is likely to see plenty of action in the coming month.

He says it’s vital the Blues keep their momentum going and believes the return of several high-profile stars from injury.

“We have drawn level with Chelsea now and it’s important to keep our good run going and keep right on their shoulders,” he said.

“We need all our best players available to be able to do that and it has been really good to see Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko back in training this week – I’m not sure how far away they are from playing but we know it won’t be too long now.

“We feel we’ve had our injury quota for the season in all honesty and we are all hoping we have a good run now without losing anyone for a while.”

Though Ferna says Everton have a number of quality players, there is one in particular he believes the champions need to keep shackled on Saturday. He explained: “I like Ross Barkley a lot. He was unlucky not to play at the World Cup because of injury because he’s a very good player and someone who has the capability of producing something out of nothing.

“I think he’s come back stronger after his knee operation because he looks physically more powerful and he has an explosive burst of pace – more than before – and with his technical ability, he reminds me of a very young Brazilian Ronaldo when he was at Barcelona. He also had knee problems early in his career but returned stronger and lost none of his skill or dynamism.

“The goal he scored against QPR not so long ago was special and he made and amazing goal away to Newcastle last season as well - he’s a player who can hurt any team and we have to be especially wary of him on Saturday.”

Looks like Aguero and Kompany could be late fitness tests, hope they aren't playing. No Yaya Toure is a big advantage to us. Not saying they don't have quality in midfield but he is a big loss for them I think.

Think the City team have huge admiration for Ross Barkley, it wouldn't surprise me if Milner has a word in his ear at some point. He would excel in that side.

Call me absolutely mad but I reckon tomorrow could be the game we need. City will come at us, we will hopefully pack our team with as much pace as possible, and we can catch them on the counter.

Imagine the confidence levels if we do them.

I think we can do it.

Team wise i'd like to see:

Robles
Coleman Stones Jagielka Baines
Besic Barry
Kev Barkley Oviedo
Lukaku

Naismith is a shoe in to play so Barkley will probs slot in Oviedo's place and Naismith behind Rom.

Come on the blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to point out one thing to the crowd: If you see the Everton team sitting deep defending their attacks then please don't panic and urge them to press. They are playing a way that will force City into losing the ball and give us possession, we don't need to attack them for it back.

The amount of times I hear the crowd getting frustrated about this is alarming, the players must think calm down ya gang of weapons we know what we are doing

While some, maybe more would feel that 1-1 draw vs that ballooned faced Big Sam's West Ham would give us some impetus due to our arduous effort to claim a 1-1 draw in the end, I'm not buying it. If there's a game that could change our fortunes this season and prove an epoch in Martinez'a topsy turvy Everton tenure till now...its this.

David Moyes would have the fans incensed with vital cup losses to Liverpool, Wigan, Old Ham to bringing Hibbert on to defend a lead and end up squandering it. But that ginger Man Utd legend always found a way to answer straightaway in the big games at home when the pressure was at it's peak with Straqualursci or Beckford in attack. Therefore when you look at this Everton side with the talent that needs no introduction you'd think the spanking we gave teams last season would become a norm at Goodison. However, we're obviously paying the cost of being too over confident in our defence and following the paths of all these passing teams in not caring about the importance of defence which seems to be have put a nasty virus in our confidence.

So, with such little confidence, low optimism, we look forward to a way to get some points of this game...3 if possible FFS. Wouldn't mind a 0-0 tbh cos I can't remember our last clean sheet. Irrespective of the outcome, I'm sure a lot of you are looking forward to this guy

Well in mate, nice work (y)

I don't reckon I'll have time so I'm pleased at this.

I was taking too much abuse over them anyway, where's my motivation to complete them?

Pull your finger it and get your priorities right mate.
Less time posting in political threads and more time preparing previews and you're sorted.

Failing that, write it as a multi and see if you get a better response !

I took some encouragement from the game on Tuesday and ive got a good feeling about tomorrow. The inclusion of stones should make a massive difference to our defence and toure not playing is bonus. Us to win and me to clean up at the bookies
