I am embarrassed to say that when i saw Alex cut inside after getting the ball from Coleman, I have to admit I truly believed we were going to score there. I let myself get optimistic. Then it actually happened. Only the second time Everton were anything other than despair this season, the other being Gray's worldie vs Arsenal

Having been going for 50 years I have developed the same sense that "this should be a goal" and I had leapt out of my seat and was 2 rows down.. ended up hugging some random bloke on the other side of the aisle and falling over .. son picked me up..

The fact that you can’t be happy for a result speaks volumes. Many would have been happy with a draw and were saying exactly that. Your view is also twisted because in that second half, while it wasn’t pretty, we prevented them from doing what they had done in the first. It was only after the sending off that they reimposed themselves on the game. I hate to break it to you son but they didn’t score in the 90 mins, we scored in extra-time, they didn’t so therefore we won. You seem a little bitter about it, which is strange.

DCL back heal = Sublime
Iwobi busting a gut to get onto the 1-2 & even though the ball was perfectly weighted, he still showed great composure to adjust his feet & simply pass the ball into the net. = Sublime

Thought we thoroughly deserved the 3 points. I hope we show that same level of fight for the rest of the season. Voted Iwobi as MOM because of the goal, and thought he had a good game generally, but thought overall Allan was our best player before his red card. Gordon did well too - fair comments about his end product but his spirit and work rate are huge for us at the moment. Automatic starter for me. Credit to the back 4 also. I'm more than happy to criticise them so should be fair and say they all played well

I thought the back four were more ready to put their foot in to clear the ball last night with absolutely no fannying about on the edge of our box when under pressure. Thought Begovic played well too, particularly against Newcaste where Pickford does tend to get more than a bit excitable.

Let's hope this gives the team a shot in the arm now to have a little bit of belief.

Follow that up with a win on Sunday and maybe we can turn this season from one of the worst in most our memory to potentially a fantastic one
