I agree. Its a mixed blessing getting wigan first.

With Titus Bramble (how? how? how is this player still playing for professional clubs let alone a top flight club?) and some fairly poor nondescript players (scharner and heskey aside), and a manager who has taken over a jewell side before and got them relegated - it seems wigan are heading for the drop.

But morale was still high as they didn't seem to know it. Come the return leg they will no longer have their heads held so high.

Thought we did OK.

Arteta continues to get better, he really took the mikel out of Kilbane.

Slightly disagree with you. Our defence didn't give away clear chances true, but there were some shots that was dangerous and with a bit of luck (on their side) one or two of them could have gotten in. And I still can't blame Hibbert for the goal. We can't leave the whole of the penaltybox open.. y)

To be fair though i think you'd need the best defence in the world and a massive amount of luck not to let the opposition get any chances throughout the whole game.

Also, true Hibbert isnt solely to blame as its a team game, Stubbs got caught out, and that caused Hibbert to leave his man, but he has to accept a certain amount of responsibility for that though, he just seemed to wander away from his man as if he was in the middle of the field, not right in front of the goal.

I like Hibbert, hes a good tackler and give his best, but that was a silly mistake and he needs to be dropped for a little bit and neville replaced with him. Discipline is important, and mistakes like that we can cut out easily.

ive said it before, he was caught 2 vs 1, and had to make a decision, he played the odds and it didnt work out - but he was damned either way.

it appears the neville captaincy is a problem now, he is cover at LB and RB, and isnt so hot in midfield. valente on the bench and CB lescott in his LB place along with the arrival of baines - it appears 33 year old nuno is on the outs.

i like hibbert, he has more pace than neville, and i believe he is a better tackler, but despite his assist, his passing at medium and long range is woeful.

sadly we dont have £21 Mill to buy dan alves.

Neville should be first choice right back from now, he has a better all-round game than Hibbert, he brings leadership, experience and is more comfortable as an attacking wing back.

I agree Hibbert is an outstanding tackler and works hard, but he makes too many mistakes, is useless as an attacking wing back and is a little too quiet, so lacking any leadership values. I'm not singling Hibbert out, but Neville is better so Hiibert should be his reserve at the moment.
